The articles I have posted are from the 1850s, the dates are posted with them. They are all from findmypast.

Leotard Bosco is this man born in 1850 so he can't be the Signor Bosco I have posted about.
He may be the same person as SAUL BOSCO that I posted. Another alias???

After more research I'm not entirely sure that the signor bosco from the articles above is the same so or bad I that came over from Italy in 1845. The signor bosco from the articles is almost an alias name from a man named James Frederick greethead born in England in 1851 mother Mary greethead .Other aliases include leotard bosco.

Thankyou alviegal! How brilliant, I'm thrilled you have found such interesting articles. Could I ask where you found them or if you have the links to them?
I will have to look into the marriage of Alfred and Hannah and see if they fit on my tree although bosco doesn't seem to be a very common name in England.

Wonder if this one's connected? He sounds like the same man.

SIGNOR SAUL BOSCO ! ! GREAT MONARCH OE LEGERDEMAIN, Who has had the honour of appearing before her Majesty Queen Victoria and the Royal Family at Balmoral Castle, and who has also had the privilege of giving a special performance before their Imperial Highnesses the Crown Prince and Princess of Germany, and also the Royal Family at Sandown, Isle of Wight on 25 July 1874, will open his ENCHANTED PALACE OF ILLUSIONS.

26 September 1874 - Buckingham Advertiser and Free Press - Buckingham,

and another Bosco.

PROFESSOR BOSCO PREPARES The Showman's the PROFESSOR BOSCO has a new living van, one with a gold top. He is planning to take it, and his family, and his all-in wrestling booth, and the stuff for his sideshows, on the road; by which you may know, more certainly than by sight of the first crocus, that the stirring of the sap is near and spring is on the way.

It then names his wrestlers, the Battling Howley Brothers, Butcher Robinson, The Farmer's Boy, Harry Smith and the Gill Sisters. Gladys Gill was described as 'quiet as a mouse and gentle as a dove' outside the ring but she was the middle weight woman's champion of Britain.

Ooo this one's a bit of a worry! He obviously recovered himself in later years.

Signor Bosco, -whose sleight of hand attracted so much attention in London some time back, astonished the Manchester people, after his performances on Thursday night, by attempting to commit suicide. He threw himself into a pit but was rescued. A quarrel with his wife was alleged as the cause. He was reprimanded and discharged.

Signor Bosco was a magician. He was described as an 'Italian Wizard' in this clipping. He was very well known on the continent but this was his first time in Britain.

Morning Chronicle 05 June 1851 London, London, England

' BOSCO ! BOSCO!! BOSCO! SIGNOR ALFRED BOSCO, Chevalier of the Legion of Honour, begs respectfully to inform the Nobility, Clergy, Gentry, and Inhabitants of Rochdale and its Vicinity, that he will give Two extra Grand Fashionable DRAWING-ROOM ENTERTAINMENTS!'

It goes on to say that he had performed in front of Queen Victoria and her family at Balmoral in Sept 1855
Napoleon at Palace of the Tuilleries
King of Prussia at Berlin in May 1851
King of Hanover in Dec 1852

20 February 1858 - Rochdale Pilot, and General Advertiser - Unknown

At the Waterloo Rooms, he did feats of magic, ventiloquism etc.
He also had an 'Augmented Band with music expressly composed and arranged by Signor Bosco. And other novelties.'

Edinburgh Evening Courant 18 April 1857

SIGNOR BOSCO, THE GREATEST WONDER OF THE AGE! WILL open his enchanted PALACE OF ILLUSIONS without apparatus, without covered tables, without sleeves, and without coat pockets, will transfer his assembly to the gold and silver regions, and will fill silver dishes to the brim with gold and silver coins of all nations, catching them in the air as they fly to all parts of the room.
In addition to Signor Bosco's usual performance, he will introduce the ROPE FEAT of the DAVENPORT BROTHERS.

28 January 1865 - Coventry Standard - Coventry, West Midlands, England

There are many snippits like these from papers throughout the country on findmypast.
