Could David be reading the birth surname wrongly and was her mother's name 'Cheshire' ? |

MarieCeleste, that does sound quite a good theory. Clarissa was certainly a lot younger than him, so perhaps he was smitten, but they didn't have enough in common to sustain the match? |

James George Buckle appears to have been an architect that specialised in building theatres (according to newspaper archives and Google). |

HI Sylvia, David did say marriage between 1896 and 1900, so I suspect he either knows, or believes as we do, that the 1896 death is that of the first Mrs Buckle. |

I looked at this as I thought she had an unusual name combination and could have been sticking close to the truth later in life. The age is out compared to the 1901 census and/or she could have married a Fisher before a Buckle |

James had been married previously, did his wife definitely die, or was he perhaps not free to marry Clarissa? |

My Grandmother was born in 1900 and was named Olivia Millicent Buckle. Clarissa was her mother. I am trying to find if and when she married James George Buckle between 1896 and 1900. Can find no trace of Clarissa before or after the birth of my grandmother even though on the 1901 census it says that she was born in 1878 in Huntingdonshire. |
