Her surname of HERVEY is often mistranscribed; we have had HIRDY, HERSEY and more. Perhaps this could be the problem here? |

Yes, she makes daily entries and they go on for about six months or so. We can narrow down the date she may have written it because she makes reference to the death of her baby nephew ARCHIBALD EARLE out in Burma - he died in 1899. |

can you tell from the journal how long she was in India, i.e. are there daily entries, or does she date them by days of the week or month? |

That passport application is very interesting, but my feeling is that it is not our girl. It is way too early in her life and we're pretty sure that she didn't travel abroad until she went out to India to visit her younger married sister Rosamond. Rosamond's married name was HANNA. |

Thank you all! We have all of this, including a wonderful photograph of her at Barley Grange [see 1881 above] with ALL the servants - eight in total, so some of them did not 'live in'. |

Looking for the sailing of ISABEL MATLEY HERVEY from the UK to India c.1889 or perhaps into 1890. She was visiting her elder married sister and she kept a wonderful journal of her stay out there with all their travellings around. We are so lucky to have this but it is not dated! She was born in 1834 if you need to match her age. Thank you in advance. |
