Thanks Jacqueline. But where was Maude Lilian in 1911 - not in the Jaggard household. Maybe gone into service or to Australia. Thanks Jen |

Karin, I have had three responses to my mini mailshot.. " by email who cannot help. One of these people has passed my letter to her nephew who is researching the Huckins tree. Then - surprise a letter arrived from one of the letter recipients stating that he remembers being taken by his father in the 1950's to visit his father's uncle Thomas in Narrabeen, Sydney. That is the address on the death certificate. Then to make it even better he enclosed a little snapshot of the house with a car parked outside (no signs of grandad though) I have never been this near before! Of course it may be possible that it was a different Thomas. Needless to say I have replied to the letter asking for more info about his father and grandfather. Snail mail - so one of these days the postman may bring me something! Watch this space! Jen |

Jennifer these are the electoral roll listings for Thomas James Huckins (seems to be only one person by that name) |

Thanks JoonieCloonie. So the Wetherill Street address was his last home and the earlier ones were pre war. Maybe it was a move up the social ladder when he got to be sergeant or down when he retired?? Doesn't look like Maude had to work for a living - but no kids can be traced. The only person in ENgland that I managed to speak to was his nephew Thomas who was the son of Edward Huckins (my grandfather's brother). He well remembered his uncle Thomas coming to England in 1934 and wanting to take him back to Oz with him. He does not have any photos. I would have thought there would have been official police photos of all the officers in a nice group - but no. Maude's siblings have no traceable descendants. The only thing I could do - but I don't want to spend the money, is to order a copy of Maude's probate to see where all her stuff went. I suppose I must give up. My hopes are all hanging on this latest person Brian Huckins. |

I wonder who had it altered to the correct spelling? Makes you wonder how much we are missing through incorrect spellings. As regards Brian Huckins being descended from a sister of my grandfather - if this is the case she must have not bothered marrying - or possibly intermarried another Huckins branch member? I am watching the postman every morning. He will begin to think I fancy him! Haha. We are off to Dorset for a week in a day or two so maybe when I get back there will be a letter? I recently saw that the Metropolitan Police Station on Rosslyn Hill Hampstead where Thomas served as a police constable from 1910 until he went to Oz has been sold to a developer who is turniing the beautiful building into luxury flats. |
