Thanks Prickly Holly - I didn't have the other 2 children . The other child must have been Winfred Ellen who dies around 2 looking at free bmd.

I didn't think that was him because there is a William Frederick Dodd b Dec qtr 1892.

Going by that Seaman's Record

If he was born 22nd July 1892........his birth probably wasn't registered until the October quarter......

Ok.........so you do know for certain he is William George Dodd.

I noticed that a tree on Ancestry has him as William Frederick Dodd born 1892.

Yeah unfortunately I think that is me. Haven't looked at my family history for awhile. When I find his birth cert today I knew I had picked up the wrong details. Too may Williams and Fredericks in this family :-S But yes I have his birth cert which says William George Dodd .

So, to recap . . . .

we have the right family in 1891, 1901 and 1911.

William F in 1891 is actually Frederick William born 1890
Willie in 1901 is William George.
After that no sign of him.

Father William not with the rest of the family in either 1901 or 1911.

Yes that's right ArgyllGran . The father William George is in South Africa - mining. Don't know where to look from here. If I wrote to Exe Moor Hosp would they confirm William George Dodd was inmate do you think?

They might - no harm in trying.
It depends on when he died, or left their care, and how long they keep old records.
