Mmmm food for thought! I don't see her on the next census where she would be 15 yrs old. There seems to be so many Alexander Mutch and Marys on Ancestry. I have the correct Alexander Mutch born 2 June 1882 at 90 High St. New Pitsligo (Tyrie) parents are Alexander Mutch farm servant and Mary Watt Ross (I have birth document). I see them on the 1881 census with 11 month old son John L Mutch but can t see a birth on sp to confirm. Alexander Mutch and Mary Watt Ross were married 12 June 1880. There is someone on Ancestry who has all the children listed including a Bathia Coutts Mutch born 1890 (I traced a death on sp in 1983 which confirms her mothers maiden name as Ross) but this person has her mothers maiden name as Anderson.. So get both confusing and annoying. I cant seem to trace Mary Watts Ross on census records before 1881 :-( |

The Mary being her mother could be an Ancestry assumption - Step-child then could have different meanings to the one we use today. |

I am tracing Alexander Mutch "farm servant" born c1858 Aberdeen and his wife Mary Watt Ross born c1859 Aberdeen. They were married 12 June 1880 at New Pitsligo Aberdeen. I see them on the 1881 census with a step daughter Elizabeth G Wood born c1876 Tyrie Aberdeen?? Totally thrown as I cant trace a marriage between Mary Watt Ross to a Wood? and she must have been very young to have had daughter Elizabeth, perhaps a marriage didn't take place |
