Thanks guys, I had to sign off yesterday, but was coming back today to see if I could find a marriage that would fit, but glad to see that you have followed through on my info. Looks as though Hannah is indeed Hannah Hall then. I hate leaving loose ends so nice to see a good result.

Catherine, Yes that does seem to fit. I am in awe at how you find all this information :-) I suppose sometimes you have to take a chance on certain information and hope that it is all correct, unless someone else can prove otherwise. Thanks again for all your work Karen x

If the 1881 census records are them, then I was wondering where Edith, noted on 1891 and 1901 census as daughter, aged 11yrs + 21yrs born in Mayfield, Sussex was in 1881 census?
Found this one:-
Name: Edith Emily Hall Age: 1 Estimated birth year: abt 1880 Relationship to Head: Granddaughter Gender: Female Where born: Mayfield, Sussex, England Civil Parish: Mayfield County/Island: Sussex Country: England Street address: Wellbrook Cottage
Registration district: Uckfield Sub registration district: Rotherfield ED, institution, or vessel: 13 Neighbors: View others on page Piece: 1051 Folio: 37 Page Number: 1 Household Members: Name Age William Hall 50 Charlotte L. Hall 48 George Hall 17 Fanny Hall 15 Ada Hall 9 Kate Hall 8 Edith Emily Hall 1
........................which would fit
and 1861 census for same family shows that they had a daughter called Hannah.
Name: Hannah Hall Age: 3/12 (should be 3yrs) Estimated birth year: 1861 (should be 1858) Relation: Daughter Father's name: William Hall Mother's name: Charlotte Hall Gender: Female Where born: Mayfield, Sussex, England Civil Parish: Mayfield Ecclesiastical parish: Mayfield County/Island: Sussex Country: England Street address: Registration district: Uckfield Sub-registration district: Rotherfield ED, institution, or vessel: 13 Neighbors: View others on page Household schedule number: 1 Piece: 574 Folio: 131 Page Number: 1 Household Members: Name Age William Hall 30 Charlotte Hall 29 Mark Hall 8 Harriett Hall 5 Hannah Hall 3/12 (I think this should be 3yrs) Emily Hall 1/12 Martha Sellings 20
............................................so would fit.

Taking a look for a marriage between George and Hannah, what do you think about this:-
Going on birth dates and places from the other census records, I think that this could be George in 1881:-
Name: George E. Mills Age: 21 Estimated birth year: abt 1860 Relationship to Head: Servant Gender: Male Where born: Hartfield, Sussex, England Civil Parish: Tonbridge County/Island: Kent Country: England Street address: 17 and 18 MT Pleasant Occupation: (Domestic) Registration district: Tunbridge Sub registration district: Tunbridge Wells ED, institution, or vessel: 11 Neighbors: View others on page Piece: 913 Folio: 100 Page Number: 9 Household Members: Name Age William Beadell Bacon 35 Jane Bacon 33 Alice Marian Bacon 8 William Beedell Bacon 7 Emma Caroline Bacon 6 Harold Bacon 4 Jane Bacon 3 Fanny Sudweekes 61 Emily Cavill 33 Minnie Allcorn 23 Jane Thompson 19 Ellen L. Sargent 14 Kate C. Rand 21 George E. Mills 21 Henry A. Tribe 18
........................
......................so could this be Hannah????
Name: Hannah Hall Age: 22 Estimated birth year: abt 1859 Relationship to Head: Servant Gender: Female Where born: Mayfield, Sussex, England Civil Parish: Tonbridge County/Island: Kent Country: England Street address: 40 St James Rd Occupation: Domestic Serv Registration district: Tunbridge Sub registration district: Tunbridge Wells ED, institution, or vessel: 22 Neighbors: View others on page Piece: 916 Folio: 15 Page Number: 24 Household Members: Name Age Caroline M. Oh bother
There is a possible birth for Hannah Burchett in 1858 in Sussex but I still can not find any possible marriage to George so going to rule that out for the time being
Think you are going to have to get one of the birth certs to find out the maiden name of Hannah
1881 just on case it is relevant at a later date Name: Hannah Burchett Age: 23 Estimated birth year: abt 1858 Relationship to Head: Daughter Father: John Burchett Mother: Naomi Burchett Gender: Female Where born: Warbleton, Sussex, England Civil Parish: Mayfield County/Island: Sussex Country: England Street address: Myths Occupation: Ag Labourers Daughter Registration district: Uckfield Sub registration district: Rotherfield ED, institution, or vessel: 14d Piece: 1051 Folio: 46 Page Number: 1 Household Members: Name Age John Burchett 60 Naomi Burchett 50 Hannah Burchett 23 Elizabeth Burchett - this could be Emily Elizabeth born Mayfield
NO RULE OUT the 1881 posted as Elizabeth is still with her grandmother in 1891
Perhaps George and Hannah never married

This looks to be the birth record for your father:-
Births Mar 1935 (>99%) Eastoe Anthony B Eastoe Rochford 4a 1057
...............so name is noted as Eastoe.
I would suggest that the 'B' is probably for Beach and could very possibly be the surname of his father.

So the marriage I found would be the correct one. i would suggest buying a copy of the marriage certificate to see if the information it gives on Margaret fits with the information already found. If it does, then you will at least be able to put together one side of your family tree. :-D

Many years ago I was trying to trace my grandfather, but gave up on this as I think it was an impossible search, My father Anthony was born in 1935. His birth certificate shows his surname as BEACH but he always thought his surname was SAFFERY. Turns out that his mother Margaret Eastoe married a Frederick Saffery who adopted Anthony and changed his name. My dad was completely unaware of this until just before he passed away. It would be lovely to find out if there are any living relatives on the Mills/Eastoe side, but the main purpose of my search is just to be able to put together a family tree. I doubt if I will ever be able to go back much further than I already have, but if I could at least put a little tree together it would be lovely. I will try the library for electoral registers

One of the most important things when doing your family tree is to buy some certificates to be sure you are on the correct track. Even then, people did tell some little white lies so they are not 100% reliable, but without them, anything you find is only speculation.
If Anthony was your father, do you have his birth certificate? If so, then what information does it give?

Margaret was my grandmother and although she died several years ago, I remember her telling me that she spent her early years in Islington, and that her mother died when she was very young. The death of Constance in 1913 would tie in with what I was told. I have no idea who bought Margaret up and she never really talked about it when she was alive. She had a son in 1935 my father Anthony but was not married at the time, so I think everything was hushed up in the family and no one ever spoke about the family history, which is very sad. I am now going to see if I can at least put together part of a tree to hand down for future generations, but have seen already today from all your kind information, how easy it is for a novice to go down the wrong path. Think I have my work cut out lol xx

Hi Karen, just noticed your earlier posting. If you are trying to link this family to someone in your tree, are you able to give us the name of the person as we may be able to work backwards for you?
