All this barking up possible wrong trees has given me a sore throat so off out to do some shopping
Will wait for any feedback from the poster as they must have more info than they have given in their request.
Also would be interested to see if they do confirm the dates

PM received from Jemma
"Thank you yes I made a drastic error. Joseph was born C1844 not 1884."
The helpers on this site. who are other members just like you, have posted a lot of information on your request but we have no idea if any of it is correct or not as you have obviously read the thread.
Would like to know if you have the 1865 marriage cert of Joseph and Margaret to find out the name and occupation of his father and who the witnesses are.

Had two pm's this morning
Joseph Swanick Ord born c1844 died c1902 The marriage date of 1865 makes sense as he would have been about 21 yrs.
I sort of have marriage cert. only a copy off the internet. It gives William Ord as the father.

aha, I clicked on the thread wondering whether this would turn out to be one of the Hoar/Hoare/Hore hoard, and sure enough there it is :-) --
Name: Joseph Swanwick Hore Gender: Male Christening Date: 20 Nov 1842 Christening Place: WELLINGTON,SHROPSHIRE,ENGLAND Father's Name: William Hore Mother's Name: Susannah
so the surname was really HORE
it was very common for people with this name to change it because of its connotations (imagine my glee when I informed my mum that her ancestor was a Hoar) ... whether they made it so the spelling matched the dropped 'h' (Orr) or by adding a 'd' at the end (Hoard) ... or in the case of 'Ord', both ... and, elsewhere than Devon/Cornwall it sometimes became 'Hawe' and variants I believe
this was more common among emigrants to places where the 'h' was less likely to get dropped and their name was being pronounced 'Hore' :-)
from the 1851 census, Joseph's father William HORE was born in Ketley, Shropshire, so this family is likely not related to the Cornwall or Devon Hoar/Hoare/Hores (my line is Cornwall)
but you can probably still assume that the name was originally Hore

Hannah first went to the States C1898 and returned C1903, 1908 dates only approx. she returned to England after 40 years as Nanny to the Gilchrist family. She appears on the 1910 US census. These three times she entered the states on HMS Campania through Ellis Island. (Don't have any other records on that. Her husband Thomas Jones had been adopted by the Gwynne family on his mother's (Rosannah Jones) marriage to Francis Gwynne. Thomas died from Acute Endopericarditus 2 years after his marriage. They had three children Mabel (b1893, d1904 aged 11); Harold (d1915 killed at the battle of Ypres WWI aged 21); Evelyn (died soon after birth). As for Joseph Ord I find him on the 1871,81,91, and 1901 census. I have a copy of his marriage cert., 6th November, 1865, which lists William Ord as his father. One of the witnesses was a Sarah Ord, Sister or mother I don't know.
I cannot find any trace so far of William Ord.

Jemma have you read the information in the thread? it can be confusing when it is just copied and pasted records, but you need to read each one and see how they fit together
(maybe you had not seen page 2 when you typed your reply, that often happens)
this one in particular which I recopied above
Name: Joseph Swanwick HORE Gender: Male Christening Date: 20 Nov 1842 Christening Place: WELLINGTON,SHROPSHIRE,ENGLAND Father's Name: William Hore Mother's Name: Susannah
it seems that Joseph's real name at birth, and his father's name, was HORE (or another spelling of it: Hoar, Hoare)
the 1851 census says
William HORE 56 born 1795 in Ketley, Shropshire Joseph HORE 9 born 1842 in Shropshire, England
and see also the burial record Chris posted
HOARE Susanna, March 24th 1850, Wellington, Christ Church abode was Watling Street age was 50
... that is the address where the widowed William HORE was living with the children including your Joseph, in 1851
none of the children's births, or Susanna's death, seems to have been registered under any surname
could this be William's death?
Deaths Dec 1872 HOARE William 83 Wellington, Sh. 6a 507
'Ord' is most likely a phonetic spelling of the name when it was changed from HORE to HOARD because people didn't like being called 'Hore' even though the 'h' was silent -- Hoard is the more common new spelling when that happens

Two different people have corrected the record for the HORE/ORD family in the 1841 census at Ancestry
Name: William Dour [William Hore] [William Ord] Age: 45 Estimated birth year: abt 1796 Gender: Male Where born: Shropshire, England Civil Parish: Wellington Hundred: South Bradford (Wellington Division) County/Island: Shropshire Registration district: Wellington
William 45 groom Susanna 40 Louisa 8 Susannah 16 Allen 3 Hannah 1
the image actually reads HOAR quite clearly
in 2007 someone corrected it to Hore and said 'maybe relative'
in 2014 someone corrected it to Ord and said it was a variation
you can try to contact those people through the Ancestry system
