Thanks for that, Gins. Poor little thing. The whole family had loads of children. David was one of ten children and his father was one of nine children. I thought there was another son, David, born in 1892 in America but I must have been wrong because he's not on the census. My next task will be a tour of the cemeteries in Merthyr Tydfil. |

Yes, I've just checked the names and it's them. They had ten children in all. Three were born in Merthyr so the rest must have been born after they emigrated. There were two named Bessie then. The first Bessie was born in Merthyr in 1881 and died in 1885. It was common in these parts to name a subsequent child after one who had died. I've got a snippet that says the Bessie born in 1886 married Joseph Hughes so that must have been in America. This is a real bonus. Thank you so much. |

Is this them? He was an iron ore miner and they both emigrated in 1882. |
