Thanks Jacqueline, my Registration of a 2yr old has been superseeded by :-
Births Sep 1838 CHECKLEY Charles Southam 16 410
and Southam is the District covering Napton. Looks like I can accept the 1851 you found for me some while ago and accept that Charles was very careless about his age when he joined the army and from then on.

If you can find another Charles with father Job, let me know
Have you looked for info on the sites you were given?
In view of his wife's age, don't you think he just might have fibbed a bit?
Even with the age he gave when he married, she was 8 years younger!

Thank you for your searches Jacqueline but they don't quite match. In later records Charles is always close to a birth 1843, both his Army postings and marriage and later census, with his known family.

Thank you all for your efforts but I think I have been leading you astray and my arithmetic has taken a holiday. Further back in my thread the Charles Checkley I know is correct has a birth c.1842 but I have failed to find this so I am going to do the correct thing and insist on having his marriage certificate to find the name of his father.
Marriages Mar 1872 CHECKLEY Charles Foleshill 6d 489
Grubb Eliza Foleshill 6d 489
Sorry !
