You have already given me the answer.

In 1891 the O’Malley household included Hannah’s younger sister, Clara O’Malley, age 15.
In September quarter 1906 a Thomas Meehan married Clare O’Malley or Elizabeth Stanley.
A Thomas Meehan was born in March 1907. It seems likely that the legatee was Hannah's nephew.

Just out of curiosity (I like to have a possible ending to the story), can anyone find any further info? I have exhausted my capacities using the tools I have (FMP, Free BMD, etc). This is what I have so far:

In 1901 there was a Thomas Meehan living a few doors away from the O’Malley family (Harriet Knowles was born O’Malley). In fact, there were two: father Thomas Meehan a labourer age 54 and son Thomas Meehan age 16, a cotton piecer. In that year Harried O’Malley, a tobacco spinner, was 17 years old. Is this significant?
Note: There is a birth for a Thomas Meehan in March 1907. As this was before the mother’s name was automatically recorded I do not know whether Harriet was the mother. If she was, there seems to be no reason why they did not marry. There appears to be no death recorded for a Thomas Meehan around that date.

I had to buy several for my G Grandfather and others before I found the right one!

Thanks again. I guess it is most likely to be her. I doubt there were many of that name Harriet Knowles who left such a nice legacy. Probably a nephew?

There is a Thomas Meehan/m living a fe w doors away from the O'Malley/Malley family in 1901. Perhaps he has something to do with the Probate?

Thank you. Albert's story is coming together beautifully. The cycle accident rings a faint bell in the dim recesses of my memory. I wasn't around at the time but later, as a small child, I vaguely remember mention of it. My father (Albert's nephew) was also a cyclist. The wealthy widow Harriet doesn't seem to have remarried? At least, I can't find her, or her death. Maybe she retired somewhere warm. And I wonder what became of her wealth? As far as I know, my father had none of it. Perhaps it went to her siblings' children.

The marriage certificate is the one you need to prove he is your Albert.

1911. Definitely not the right family. This is the one that produced the Albert who married into the Eckersley family (witness Edwin K).

On the other hand, his father was Isaac K, who features on the other marriage record. You are right. I must send for some certificates.

The newspaper report is the Albert K I am looking for. He was living at that address when he registered the death of his sister Sarah Caroline in 1928. I have her death cert. Thank you.
