Thinking out loud.

Alfred Cleatus Street appears on the 1851, 1881, 1891, 1901 and 1911 census using the surname Street. He uses the same name on his second marriage in 1903?

Not seeing his first marriage to Emma or finding him in 1861 or 1871 census. I did wonder if Currell was Emma's maiden name and if, for some reason Albert decided to use his mother's name. Not unheard of. My great uncle did that but it was because he had left his wife and children here and emigrated to Australia with another"wife".

Alfred Cleatus Street's death, so it seems only Albert changed his name, if indeed it is him.

Just to stick my oar in...it seems almost inconceivable that Alfred Cleatus Street and Currell are not one and the same.

So obviously the thing to sort is when (and if possible why - thought this is a big ask) the name change happened. Or did they assume dual identities???

I sent for alfred currell b1868 in shipston on stour. I found this on someone elses tree but it wasn't sourced that's why I sent for it

But the only Alfred Cleatus showing is Street not Currell. And Albert Frederick Currell b. 1886 in Bilston only shows up on the 1911 census and the marriage to Rachel!

Hmmm...I'm not fully grasping all this, sorry. Why does 'Street' come into my search..? What's happened to 'Currell'? Albert gets Currell from Alfred Cleatus Currell who is on the marriage certificate in 1910...

I was just confused when you said you were sending for birth certificate - 1886? Which birth certificate were you referring to?

Personally, I think we need to be looking at the surname 'Street'

Angela, I think the point Gins was making on page 1 was that it looks like Albert was actually born Albert Street son of Alfred Cleatus Street who sometimes used the surname Currell and sometimes Street.

1911 census says he was born in Bilston

Hi Gins. I can't either. Would it be possible the birth wasn't registered, even though not to do so was illegal? The marriage certificate in 1910 says he was 24...

I think I must be going nuts! I can't see a birth for a Albert Frederick Currell in 1886 :-S

I just asked her about certificates and she doesn't have any birth ones. I have sent for the 1886 birth certificate so I can ascertain his parents. I will have to send for the others too to tie it all up!
