There are 2 deaths for a John Marsh in Mansfield Notts in 1848. One in first Qtr and one in 2nd Qtr, so seems likely he died in 1848 at the grand old age of approx 88. Also in the Index to Death Duty Registers in 1848 for John Marsh, Mansfield Notts. How would I go about accessing this record? |

You'd need to know when & where he died - the systems changed in 1858 so if he died before this - highhly likely - the will could be held in local records and not centrally recorded. |

I wonder if John Marsh had a will. If he did it might enlighten us about his relationship to Hannah Cowley, and whether she became Hannah Marsh. |

There are 2 John Marsh death in Mansfield, both in 1848 - could be worth an e-mail to the records office they can check out the burials (it doesn't look like they make a charge) and you never know it may give another lead. Obviously back in 1848 age at death was not recorded on the BMD, so no way of knowing if either is right. |

I haven't, that's why I was trying to find the other visitor - hoping they worked together. |

I would be surprised if john marsh was actually the father of Hannah Cowley |

I wondered if the other visitor on the 1861 census could lead to finding them together in 1851 maybe working together - but no luck. Incidently she was Sarah A Eddowes not Beddows - she died in 1884, a spinster, in Dilhorne. |

The John Marsh entry on marriage cert is just fathers name and occupation. Sometimes it will state deceased, but not always. |
