There is someone on this site called Sarah who has Douglas Orgill born 1918 in her tree.

If you do as MarieCeleste says above you should find her and you can then click on "find out more" and send her a message direct.

Lots of other people with Orgill family members from Derbyshire in their trees. You can send messages to any of these that you think might have a match with your family.

Hi Deborah, yes this site is a little different and not the most user friendly. On the menu above there's a magnifying glass - click on that to get to the menu for searching other people's trees.

You mention your grandparents married about 1895, just posting this in case you didn't have the exact date:

Pennsylvania and New Jersey, Church and Town Records, 1708-1985

Name: John R Orgill
Event Type: Marriage
Marriage Date: 9 Oct 1895
Marriage Place: Scranton, Lackawanna, Pennsylvania, USA
Spouse Name: Jessie Cousin
Denomination: United Methodist
Organization Name: Providence United Methodist

Married at the home of the bride.

Have you searched the trees on here?

There seems to be a number of trees with the Orgill name from Derbyshire

There is not much point posting on an old thread as the poster may not see it now

Thank you for such a quick response. To find out if I still have family in the UK, I guess I place a small note on one of the threads, I now have to do a similar search for my grandmother who was born in Scotland. All my husbands family are here local, so my kids don't think I have any......they volunteered to do their dad's family tree. Thanks

According to the IGI there is this marriage:-

Thomas Orgill to Elizabeth Prescott in Stapenhill, Derbyshire on 1st September 1817.

The source of the above information is a parish printout so should be correct.

Deborah Davids Report 9 Jul 2014 23:58

My name is Debbie (Deborah) Orgill Davids. I am the daughter of Douglas Haig Orgill and Doris Estelle Fraley Orgill. My dad’s father was John Orgill, born in Lattimer, Pennsylvania (PA), and then moved to Scranton, PA, where I am guessing he met my grandmother, Jessie Cousins, and they married in Scranton Methodist Church in apprx 1895. My dad was the youngest of 6 children, 3 boys and 3 girls. The girls birth year apprx Agnes Moffett Orgill (1886), Margaret Moister Orgill (1897), Ruth Isabel Orgill (1908) and boys Thomas William Orgill (1899) John Cousins Orgill (1903) and at the age of 48 years old , my grandmother gave birth to my dad, Douglas Haig, making his sibling quite a bit older than he, and when they all married and had children, they all had boys which were all more my dad’s age, and making my cousins more like my dad and when they did have children, I was still a bit older than them. My grandfather passed away when my dad was about 2 , so it was his siblings that helped my grandmother raise him. By the time I was born, there were no Orgills around and I am hoping for help here to find family still living in the UK or maybe in the US. My grandfather John R Orgill was born in the US, my great grandfather John Orgill was born in 1832 in Stapenhill or Newhall, Derbyshire, UK?. My great great grandfather was Thomas born abt 1797, same city, my great great grandmother Elizabeth (no maiden name)born abt 1797, their children were William , Ann abt 1827, All the above was just received and is all I have. Anything anyone can provide on past and present Orgill family is welcome.
