This is as much as you get on the NZ electoral rolls

New Zealand, Electoral Rolls, 1853-1981
Name: John Trigger
Gender: Male
Electoral Year: 1870-1871
District: New Plymouth
Region or Province: Taranaki

That's it - no occupation. No other Triggers. He had freehold property at Town, 244.

New Zealand BMD shows there was a John Trigger married a Mary Johnson in 1877 - no marriage to a Jane Johnson.

Registration Number: 1877/758
Bride's Given Name(s): Mary
Bride's Family Name: Johnson
Groom's Given Name(s): John
Groom's Family Name: Trigger

A marriage printout will cost $20.40 NZ or a certificate $26.50 NZ

https://www.bdmonline.dia.govt.nz/

You could use that 1877 date to check for possible articles in Papers Past.

Ian, as posted above - that is the only John Trigger arrival on Ancestry, any era.

One thing I have found in the past is that when seamen moved to a new country they often managed to bypass the usual passenger lists that we see. I'm not saying that they didn't go through some sort of immigration but they're not often found on the sort of lists that we have access to on-line.

New Zealand records are by no means comprehensive.

There are not census records as such for New Zealand on Ancestry (or any other site that I know of) but there are some electoral rolls - which of course only list people who are old enough and eligible to vote. I'll have a look on those.

Mainwhile, there is a free newspaper archive for New Zealand - Papers Past which can be useful
http://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/cgi-bin/paperspast

And of course there is Trove for Australia http://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper?q=%20

Have you looked for any records on FamilySearch? https://familysearch.org/search

Hi I have spent some time researching this afternoon and found more details

John Trigger senior born abt 1829 Devon married Ellen Rogers 1849 Liverpool
in the 1851 census John is given as being a sailor aged 22 with Ellen aged just 17 ?and a Hannah Rogers aged 22 she looks likely to be Ellen's sister.
on the marriage record 1849 it also gives John as a mariner.
I also found a details for John in a Merchant Seamen Transcription document dated 1845 it give a great description of him.

It is believed the their son John Trigger was born in Melbourne, Australia abt 1854 the family went on to live in New Plymouth, Taranaki, New Zealand.
I see that there are several New Zealand census reports for this family on Ancestry
I believe young John married abt 1875 New Zealand to a Jane Johnson

Could someone please do a look-up for their arrival in Australia 1854-1851 era and also census reports thank you

No, not seeing anything - there may be some New Zealand items.

Ian, I know I might seem pedantic but I'm 100% committed to only giving people correct and relevant information. I will not encourage people to perpetuate the ridiculous farces seen on some trees. That's why I ask the connection and what else you know.

Ian, I've posted the only result that actually comes up on Ancestry. Search results when you don't have a sub for the worldwide records often give you false promise.

You say "possible Jane Johnson" - as I said, let's work with FACTS!! There's not much point in looking up records that only *might* be connected.

How have you connected to this man and what else do you know about him?

There's another tree has him born in 1854 Melbourne to John Trigger and Ellen Rogers but living in Devon in 1861.

Lets start with hard facts and work back.

Just looking at Ancestry trees, what fun!

According to them, John Trigger was born 1832 in Melbourne to John Trigger and Ellen Rogers. His father John was born 1834 in Devon!!!!

Can see why you want to clarify.

Who (if anyone) did your John marry?

Ian

Ian Report 10 Jun 2014 09:14
