Hi Vera,
Yes that right both gas makers.
Here's what I have so far on the Thackray family. First off it's Sarah's mother that I'm most interested in, she was Mary Ann Walker and was the sister of my 2nd great grandmother Elizabeth Walker.
Mary Ann Walker was christened in Cowthorpe on 15 Dec 1802, Don't know when she married William Thackery, on 1851 census she in Beeston near Leeds with William and son John and daughter Janeand her niece Jane Annakin, Jane is down as Askin, Image was to faint to read, 1871 she's in Beeston with William and daughter Mary Ann with her husband Jonathan Walker and their 3 children, 1881 she's with Sarah and George Wright in Gomersal and I think she died in 1883.
I Think Sarah was a witnesses on the second marriage of my 2nd great grandmother Elizabeth Annakin nee Walker to William Branfoot.
1851 census Sarah is visiting her sister Elizabeth in Berwick in element where Elizabeth was a servant. Elizabeth has Kirk Hammerton as place of birth as does John Thackray and Sarah has Cattral as place of birth.
Cannot find any of them on 1851 census but on 1861 census I have Elizabeth Thackney in Catterton and in the same house is Jonathan Walker who married Mary Ann Thackery
Cannot find Mary Ann and william Thackary on 1841 & 1861 Census.
Hope this helps.

Hi Vera,
Thank you I didn't know that. Maybe that's why we cannot find Mary Thackray then.
However this morning I went to the Library and had a look on FMP site and look a at the 1851 census and it was much better then on Ancestry. Here's details: Park Side, Beeston, Leeds, Piece 2317, Folio 70, Pages 6 & 7. Thackery William Head 53yrs 1799 Labourer at the Gas Works born Long Maeston. Mary wife 49yrs 1802 born Colthrop (Cowthorpe) Jane daughter 20yrs 1831 Dressmaker born Kirkham Meston John son 13yrs 1838 born Kirk Meston Anerkin Jane neice 6yrs 1845 born Beeston Kandew nephew 21 yrs born 1830 Labourer at gas works, born Holbeck.
1861 census I found; 3 Grove Street, Hunslet, Piece 3367, Folio 11 Pg 16. Thackary William Head 62yrs 1799 Ag Labourer born Marston Brown Charles son in law 26 yrs 1835 Blacksmith born York brown Ann daughter 26 yrs 1835 born Kirk Hammerton.
So it bit more to go on!! :-)
