Hi Just started to look into this research question

It looks likely that the Ellen Gibbons born 4/7/1897 (on birth cert) Toxteth 8b 187 is the same Ellen Pierce that died

To me something does not add up with some of the the notes above.

It is believed from Workhouse logs books found for Ellen and her children

Both the Workhouse logs and birth certs show she was working as a Domestic servant in the Briercliffe Road, Workhouse, Burnley and that two off the children were born there (shown on birth certs).
So I cannot understand at this point how or why the children were in a Mossley Hill convent which is many miles away from Briercliffe.
Ellen was still working at the Workhouse right up till she married Mr Peirce in 1930

I have received the marr. cert. for ellen gibbons and Edward peirce, there is no father stated onit for ellen,only Edwards father William peirce.ellen is down as 32yrs old

I agree Roy. Perhaps the poster's mother was in touch with brother Edward?

And, of course, none of this is leading us anywhere nearer to finding Mary Agnes!

That would tie in with the 1911 census Roy.

There is still no evidance that Ellen Gibbons named on the birth certs as mum was born in 1897 let alone in Lancashire.

Gibbons Ellen Toxteth Park 8b 187 (- already eliminated)

Looks like Eleanor's family moved south so unlikely to be our Ellen.



So, next question, are we sure that she was born in Lancashire?

There are loads if you spell Peirce as Pierce, Far to many to guess which one married who

I was thinking about that one,there is a tree on ancestry with those in.Giving her birth as 4/7/1897 in Lancashire.
They had 3 sons.

Steven has Edward Peirce born 1900 on his tree,so is it the same Ellen Gibbons??

The name Ellen Gibbons is quite common so it's difficult to decide which one is the correct one, Their are plenty of possibles but in these circumstances i would start by looking at all those who would have been vey young at the time of birth of the children,

Ellen born 1897 would have been around 23 when the first child was born so not exacty a prime candidate for being an unmarried mother at that time,

Thats just my opinion
