Thanks to you all for interesting info. Have also found grandfather went to WW1 as a rigger in the Air Force . My father Andrew Charles Curteis was born 28/08/1914.
I knew that Edward Sydney had gone to Hastings on Hudson as the ships manifest said that but I had no link with his gentleman and wife. I have searched BDM for UK 1926 when my grandmother remarried as had assumed that he had died as can't find any record of a divorce. The thought was that it was 7 years after he left UK so isn't she then allowed to remarry if there has been no contact with the wife. I have then assumed that he stayed in the USA but can find no records.

I wondered about that Jude but as I skimmed through the pages there were entries up to 1914 but perhaps they just didn't bother updating .....

HeyJudeB4Beatles Report 19 Jan 2014 11:49

MC - the nok being Charles, his father, is because the date of the record is 1902 and precedes his marriage (obviously)!! And the children are two of three - the third one not being born when he was discharged I guess....so perhaps they didn't update nok?

Odd that you don't get the 'red' thread title Patcham :-S

Mo, I think you're right, that's what I see when I search. Never seen that before though!

MarieCeleste

MarieCeleste Report 19 Jan 2014 09:48

I only get one result coming up on this board and that's this query (the name Curteis highlighted in red in the search result)??

Just in case it's of any relevance, Edward Sydney Curteis' army pension records stated his nok as his father Charles Christopher Curteis of 61 Malta Road, Leyton, Essex.

His marriage is added as to Elizabeth Beatrice Jane Bohringer at Edmonton Register office 26/08/1908 (witnesses Andrew & Lilian Bohringer).

There is a line through the section for any children.

Morning,Gins.
I think we're all learning something from this thread!
I had given up trying to use the search facility on here but with your prompting I tried again. I THINK this is what you see:

Hi Andrew

Do you have any feedback regarding the posts that have been submitted please?

Girls, I just did a search using the title of this thread and two came up, this one and another.

The other title was the same and in 'red' with no date and no facility to click and open it

My question is, are deleted threads now showing when you undertake a search?

Interesting

Andrew, they are looking at the immigration records on ancestry, sometimes the details span 2 pages which Jude hadn't appreciated (nor had I until yesterday) - so thanks for the tip Maureen!

Here's a long shot............

If Edward was the manservant of Frederick Russell Hardie (above) then maybe he stayed with him?

I've had a root around and there is a distinct possibility that Frederick Hardie returned to his fathers birthplace - Scotland

Maybe, Edward went with him and died there?

Frederick Russell Hardie & wife were on the 1920 census at the address given on Edward's immigration record. However, they don't provide any leads to him as they came back to England in 1925 (backwards/forwards a few times) and both died in England. Fred was a merchant/salesman/insurance agent.

Andrew Report 18 Jan 2014 11:17

Marriage to Edward was 1908 And the first son born 1910 also Edward. Found that he was a rigger in the Air Force in WW1 . Where did you find Fred Hardie.
