Prickly Holly - many many thanks. That does indeed point to the 1871 and 1861 census returns being one and the same family. Thank you too Andy. I will check now and see if I can find the marriage for John to either a Marian and a Mary - or perhaps Mary could just be a 'pet' name for Marian. Thank you both very much. |

Thank you Andy. Perhaps he wasn't happy being a stonemason and changed occupation. Interesting to see that once again Pullen is being used. I would imagine this change of spelling would be down to the enumerator. |

Everything else on the 1871 matches. On the image the name is Pullen. I think the birthplace for William is Rotherham. |

Not sure about the 1871 census now as William is down as a stonemason and on all subsequent census returns and his marr cert he is described as a painter. Will keep a note of this though just in case. |

Andy - that looks really promising as Kensngton features heavily on the Pullen and Young families. Thank you. I wonder if Marian was a first wife and John rem-arried. I will have to investigate some more. Thank you very much. |

safc - you could well be right as the William who got married put his place of birth on the census as Pools Green, Yorks - although I have never actually found the place. Thank you so much. I will pursue this Yorkshire contact and see if I can find John on earlier census returns. Thanks again. |

Thanks safc - that is indeed the couple who married - what I now need is to locate William's father John, described as a cabinet maker at the time of the marriage in 1877. |

I have in front of me a marriage certificate for William Pullon dated 7 Aug 1877. He is a bachelor age 24 living 23 Kensington Park Road, London and is described as a painter. The marriage is to an Emily Young(s). The Pullon surname appears under several guises on census returns - ie Pullen, Pullon Pullin and Pullan which doesn;'t help. The grooms's father is a John Pullon a cabinet maker. The difficulty I have is finding this John Pullon/Pullen on 1871 census with possibly William still living at home aged about 14. Until or unless I can locate John I cannot proceed further with this at all. I have no idea how old John would be or where he was born. Any suggestions ? Thanks. |
