Hi Guys, I THINK I may have traced a death for Charles Hughes in Sommerville USA he is listed as gardener (the occupation he was in 1881) he has died in 1887 aged 81. Darn record lists his parents, not his wife which would have confirmed this was the correct Charles...Does anyone have any idea how I can go about this?? :-S |

No I checked the Warren Weston family in 1891 1901 and no sign of her there.. father has died sometime between 1881-1898, mother Mary sometime between 1897-1915, but they could have been in Canada via their sons Charles and William...Only a guess.. :-( |

I don't see any sign of the parents anywhere after 1881, unfortunately. |

Wow, you guys are good!!! well done argyllgran for all your input...I would never have found him in Canada. His brother William Mccreadie migrated to Canada with his wife and two children the same year...Going to see if it was on the same trip.. Wish I could find the parents as easily..Wonder if they went to Canada ??? :-D |

I agree with you there Potty, it has always been the tradition for scots to name sons and daughters after the paternal/maternal grandparents.. I'm still looking for that connection. Charles has died pre 1889 but still around in 1881. Mary Hughes Mckie isn't listed as dec in 1889 but both are dec by the time of Robert Murray Hughes death in 1915. On Roberts death cert it says his father is a farmer, and on daughters death it says he is a cow feeder and mothers surname is now spelt Kay?? Its no wonder I'm not getting anywhere fast. On previous census Charles has been a labourer and on the 1881 a "gardener" I have traced all of the childrens marriages hoping I might see mother Mary on the 1891 1901 or the 1911 census perhaps living with her children, but no sign of her. The only child I cant trace is Charles Hughes. And I think I see William Mccreadie Hughes(another son of Charles and Mary Mckie) who has married Mary Douglas Edgar boarding at Glasgow heading for Canada in 1870 with son Charles and daughter Helen. Another daughter is Mary Francis Hughes who has married George Warren Weston, and they are living in Liverpool where their daughter Honora Weston was born in 1886... |
