Dear Marie Celeste, Many Many Thanks for all the info you have kindly sent me. I really think that this is def my great aunt Lucy. I was interested to see the name of their son also of John White, who must be the adopted boy, who his parents were I dont know. But my gran once said that John was the son of friends who had both drowned. But as his surname is down as White sadly a quite common name. I was also interested to see my grand fathers brother also in the census with his son being born in California, its beginning to look like he also emigrated at some point but I can not remember any talk about Arthur emigrating or who he married. there is sadly very little that I know about grandfathers Knotts siblings except Catherine and her husband was killed when the germans dropped bombs on Bath in 1942 their house had a direct hit. Another mystery sister is Sarah, I have her in two census but then she disapears. But I know she married and was a good age when she died but as to a family, I dont know. She is the next on my list. Many thanks for all your help. You are a true gem. Kindest regards , Rosamond <3

Rosamond, our post must have crossed - I've posted the passenger details, etc.
Their natural son Herbert was born 1921 according to the 1930 census. The ward John White must be the John you refer to - he was born c1929 according to the 1940 census. John must have been very young when the shooting accident happened.
There are, I'm sure, more records to be found but it's late and I'll check further tomorrow (or later today!)

Hello Marie Celeste. Thank you so much for the info. the details I have of my maternal grandfathers family fits well with the info you have sent me. Lucys father was indeed Henry James Knott and he did work in the stone quarry in fact he was killed under ground when the ceiling came down on him. I have photos of his widow in her widows weeds. Lucys mother was Elizabeth Gibbons and Lucy was one of nine children. They lived most of their lives in and around Corsham in Wiltshire. How Lucy came to be in weymouth I can only assume she worked in service down that way. This info has been great help to me thank you. I now have to check the imigration sailing lists and hopefull find the name of the ship and then hopefully find the name of the son who was killed. I really wish I had asked more questions years ago when I had the chance, hind sight is a wonderful thing isnt it. Manny thanks. Rosamond, :-)

Hello Rosamond, have you looked on FreeBMD for a potential marriage for Lucy?
She would obviously have emigrated in her married name so this basic information is a prerequisite.
Who were her parents and siblings?

Lucy Knott born c 1884 in Pickwick, Corsham, Wiltshire. She was my great aunt. My paternal grand fathers sister. I do not know much about her only family stories past down. I know she was married but it is very complicated. do not know her husbands name. They emigrated to America, they had one son and adopted a son. The adopted son accidently shot the real son (Name unknown) while out hunting. Aunt Lucy and her husband then moved to Santa Rosa, California. They did not have any more children. The adopted boys name was John Heasell. I am assuming that Heasell was aunt Lucys surname. But dont know. Lucy and her husband owned a fruit farm until her husband died then aunt lucy retired leaving John to run things, but my gran told me once that she did in fact sell the farm. John lived in Santa Rosa for the rest of his life. I use to write to him and his wife but when she died, John did not write any more so we lost touch. I know they had 3 children. I would just like to know when Lucy married, what date they emigrated and her husband s name and anything else. Please. many thanks. Rosamond
