Find Ancestors

In my grandparents family there were 3 Johns, father known as John, son known as Jack (but registered as John) and very early in their marriage my grandparents took in my grandmother's brother John Robert when his mother died when he was very young. He ended up known as Bob, but was brought up as a sibling rather than an uncle to my mum & her brother - he was only a couple of years older than them.

I only unravelled this during recent research, and it could be the case with your family?

Jack is definitely a nickname for John but if your grandfather is John how could he have a brother John? Are you sure your dad isn't thinking of an uncle Jack on his mother's side?

Johns were often known as Jack especially when ther was another John in the family.
