I noticed on the marriage of Frances and George Dearson that the witnesses were James and Eliza Hill, I did think this was strange and then found this;

So i'm assuming that Maria Dearson is Thomas George Hill's aunt. His (step)dad's sister???? Therefore it is looking likely that he was born with the surname of Hill and changed it to Dearson between 1871 and 1881 when he is living in Wales.....

Oh great- just looked up Maria dearson on 1851 census and she is listed as niece in the Smith household :-S

I did originally think she could be his sister, but he's not listed on the 1871 census in the same household. The Frances connection keeps cropping up.. He named one of his daughter Frances too...

The 1881 for Elizabeth just states a relation, looking back she maybe Richards daughter, I can't find him in earlier returns but I do find a Reuben Dearson and looking at the original image on the 1841 census there is a 30 yr old George Derson living next to him
