Hi Emma, I'm pleased everything was upfront about the previous marriage - it avoids the dilemma about whether to say anything or not.

I've had a look on FreeBMD and there are two Richardson births in Surrey 1944/1945 with mother's maiden name Cooke. However, they aren't unusual surnames......

Emma Report 17 Aug 2013 13:05

Hi I got the marriage certificates today and you were right Colin Arthur Richardson did have a previous wife and it looks as though Chris grandma knows about it as it was on her marriage certificate that Colin had been previously married.

Hillary had been married to Leslie JamesTaylor previously and had obtained a divorce from him. he maiden name was Cooke. Her full name was Hilary Compton...

Do you think it was possible they had any children as i cant find any myself?

I'd say it's definitely Eddy, Cherilyn.

Cherilyn Report 7 Aug 2013 10:03

Thanks for the certificate Emma.

Looking at it magnified, I am pretty sure that Margaret May's mother is written as Eliz EDDY. What do you think, MC?

Put together with the fact that her father is shown as a constable makes me think that we do have the right parents for her in Francis and Elizabeth.

Also if you notice, one of the witnesses was Hetty Thomas - if I remember rightly Margaret May had a younger sister named Henrietta? :-D

Let me know when/if you want more about her siblings, I know your head is probably spinning by now!

Still trying to find out more about Arthur Osmond Richardson's background.

Emma has kindly sent me a scan of his marriage certificate, as previously mentioned his father was Frederick Richardson - Gent. His mother is listed as Ethel Louisa (UnKnown) - how inconsiderate not to know his other's maiden name to help us.

Arthur's residence at time of marriage was Surrey Hills but usual residence is given as Oxford Chamber, Bourke Street, Melbourne. Birthplace Northampton, England.

The witnesses were Hetty Thomas and James Middlecoat Mundell (found on later ERs as variously a traveller and a manager).

So, when did Arthur Osmond come to Australia?

Emma Report 6 Aug 2013 19:47

I wonder if that 1949 trip had been for Colin and Gwen's wedding?

UK, Outward Passenger Lists, 1890-1960

Well done Thelma.
