Charles that was married to Hannah his middle name was Henry. That may make a difference when searching for him and on his marriage entry his father is simple listed at Charles Roumble.
|
Very true Argyll Ann, but then again maybe they dropped the roumble for some reason or wood was added for some reason. This is where I wish we could pay less for an e-mail with only the details from the registry office it's not like we actually need the certificates just the information on them. :-(

OKay I have a concern about using the surname Wood in that Charles Henry is listed under Roumble in probate, why would this be the case if the surname is Wood or roumblewood?
|
The name Roumble is a puzzle in itself.
On Ancestry, there are only two census records for that surname, one in 1851 in Fareham, and one in 1891 in London, and neither mentions a Charles.
As far as Charles Henry is concerned, the name Roumble only appears in 1895 at his marriage, in 1904 at Rose's birth, and at Charles's probate.
The 1891 census record was posted on page 1 by AnnCardiff. In earlier and later census that family's name is spelled Rumbol
The 1851 is below. In other census records the family's name is Rumble:
1851 England Census about Joseph Roumble Name: Joseph Roumble Age: 26 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1825 Relation: Head Spouse's Name: Louisa Roumble Gender: M (Male) Where born: Fareham, Hampshire, England Civil Parish: Fareham County/Island: Hampshire Country: England Street Address:
Occupation:
Condition as to marriage:

As the name seems pretty fluid, this looks like Charles Henry's death: Deaths Mar 1941 (>99%) Rumble Charles H 68 Essex S.W. 4a 431
There is no likely record of a birth in Middlesex 1869-1874 for a Charles with a name anything like Roumble, so perhaps he was born Wood.
But don't know why the occasional change to Roumble/Rumble, in amongst the various Wood records! It's not as if he'd changed, and then stuck with the new name.
This could be his father Charles's death, perhaps: Deaths Mar 1882 (>99%) RUMBLE Charles 60 Mile End 1c 473

Thanks ArgyllGran it certainly is a puzzle.
AnnCardiff I apologise I got the families mixed up talking about Maurice when it was charles' family you were looking at.
This family might need to be sidellined for awhile then something might up up at a later date.
Thanks again to all for your efforts. :-)

Just an extra thought:
Doesn't fit with above suggested death record for Charles Sr, but here's a family with Wood/Rumble connections:

So, is Charlotte Wood, nee Hall, a relation of Frances Amelia Rumble, nee Hall? And is this anything at all to do with your Charles Roumble/Rumble/Wood??? Or just coincidence?
|
ArgyllGran no idea but I will certainly look into it.
Another thing I was just thinking I remember hearing somewhere that the person named in the father section wasn't always the father ie could have been an older brother or other family member that raised him - but then again with the same name that might not work either.
Back to the drawing board me thinks. :-D
|
Should have looked there first, I suppose, but have just found a tree on Ancestry which says Charlotte and Frances were sisters. Parents John Hall and Ellen Sellar Parsons. No verification, though, and no mention of their husbands and children.
But therefore a likely Wood/Roumble/Rumble link - though maybe not the right ones!
http://trees.ancestry.co.uk/tree/9232910/person/317761879.
Now I'll go and do something else!
|
Yes, honestly, Im going to do something else!
But - that 1891 census above gave the address as 4 Malham Road.
Charlotte and Charles Wood & family live next door, at 6 Malham Road.:
1891 England Census about Ada Wood Name: Ada Wood Age: 10 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1881 Relation: Granddaughter Gender: Female Where born: Perry Hill, Catford Kent Civil Parish: Lewisham Ecclesiastical parish: St Saviours Town: Forest Hill County/Island: London Country: England Street Address:

Ada Wood 10 grand-daughter, Perry Hill, Catford, Kent
It's a pity the adopted son's name isn't Rumble! And the birthplace is different. Anyway, we've already got Charles Wood with first wife in 1891.

Thanks Argyllgran I'll have a closer look when things quiten down here at work. My internet at home is rubbish takes an hour to load a page. :-|
