You could try finding her birth on FREE BMD this may give her mothers maiden name

Hello,

I am Martin Lovell, i was adopted and did find my birth mother for a few years before she passed away.

I always knew her as Doris Rose Baker, but a visit to Bishop's Stortford Cemetery yesterday and to the funeral directors told me her name was actually Doris Emily Baker.

She lived in Bishop's Stortford and Sawbridgeworth until her death in 1988.

I am really looking for advise about how i might trace her parents, as have limited knowledge of her birth. I know that the Baker family from that area had a bit of a reputation, and some say they were very poor. I recall seeing a picture of my grandparents in basically rags.

I would be very grateful if anyone could help or advise of a next step.

Many thanks in advance.

Best wishes.

Martin
