Hi I'm looking for information for William Evans, occupation: 'travelling showman', and Elizabeth Nugent Ocroft Evans. They where married on 11 June 1862, (getting help to understand handwriting on the area).
They had a son John William Evans, born in Glasgow on 18 January 1865. John was widowed young then went onto marry Mary Cochrane on 7 October 1987; they also had a son named John. If anyone has information I would greatly appreciate.
Thanks A

The son born in 1865 must have died.......otherwise, why would a second son of the father be given the same forename?
Please would you check the year of the marriage to Mary Cochran.
Also..............William's birth year and birthplace are needed

Thank you for these responses and I will go through the documents that I have managed to gain. I have John William Evans birth certificate hence where I gained the information of his parents John and Elizabeth of whom I am trying to gain more information.
Completely new to this and hopefully I will be able to join a genealogy group that can support.

Could you answer the question about the second marriage.............please!
What 'support' do you think you can get which isn't available on GR?

Hi
Mary C married John on 17/10/87 (the certificate has John as a widower) they where 21 & 18 yr respectively on the date. Mary resided at St Andrews Sq', Glasgow, John London St, Glasgow.
Appreciate all help given but being completely new I do find this over-whelming and I'm trying to get my head around 'batch numbers' GS' film numbers etc. I knew it would be difficult but trying to put the links together where so many are broken????

Hi Angela, Welcome to the boards. The 1887 Evans/Cochrane marriage record will give a wealth of info.
1 ) what was John's occupation? 1) were either of his parents deceased when he married ? (it will be written on the cert after their names, if they were deceased )
3) Where and when was John, son of John W and Mary born?
4) Where did the marrige date for John W's parents come from? Was it from the actual the marriage cert, or was it written on John's birth record?
Edit: Only one man called William Evans married in Scotland in 1862. His wife was called Margaret Nicol, and they married on 16 Jan 1862 (Checked both SP and FS and both have just this one 1862 marriage)
It is likely that the couple you are looking for married elsewhere in the UK

Hi Potty, Yes, I did spot the difference in the name of William's wife. Son John's occupation is the reason that I asked Angela to confirm what it says on his 1887 marriage cert.

Where did John and Margaret marry? I can't find a marriage in Scotland or England/Wales.
William and Elizabeth's date and place of marriage should be on the 1865 birth cert.

Hi Potty, Angela's opening thread has the birth date for John W Evans . The corresponding birth record has a mother with a slightly different name to the one Angela gave Therefore, I am assuming that she took the mothers name, Elizabeth Nugent Orcroft as it was written, from John W's marriage cert?
Rephrase:
Angela's opening post is looking for info on William Evans and Elizabeth Taylor who married in 1862
John William Evans born Glasgow 1865 has mother's name as: Elisabeth Margaret Orcroft Taylor. However in the text, Angela quote's the mother's name as Elizabeth Nugent Orcroft Evans
The 1887 marriage cert will be written in a standard format and I am trying to ascertain the mother's exact maiden name ( sometimes written as "MS "or in full as "Maiden Surname")

Can I thank you all for this amazing help, I fully appreciate your research.
1865: John W Evans birth certificate states mothers MS as Taylor. I am having difficulty transcribing their place of marriage but it look like 'Staffordshire'; I will have to get this and their Glasgow address confirmed. Glasgow looks like 'Oldlbynd' although I'm aware I'm possibly way off line? Register in Clyde district.
1987; Marriage John & Mary Cochrane - Johns occupation - 'cloth lapper' (journeyman) again mother noted as MS Taylor. Williams occupation states - boilermaker (journeyman)
They had another child in 1904; Richard Evans on 04/08/1904 and registered 63 Soho Street, Glw', district of Camlachie.
I Concentrated on Richard as he is my great grandfather.
again, thank you for all your help Angela
