I would imagine his name is down as Cole because that's how the enumerator heard it when told his name was Cowell? |

Douglas, If George Thomas Cole was the adopted son of William Hellyar then would he not also adopt the surname Hellyar? |

Looking more closely at the 1901 image, George is aged 4 not 14. |

Is his father's name on the birth cert? If so, what is it? |

If George Thomas Cole is George Thomas Hellyar in the 1911 census, then how come his mother was registered on his birth certificate as Florence Mary Cowell which I am in receipt of. |

In the event that no children was born to the marriage then if no one can find a birth for Mary Jane the marriage cert is the other option to see if smaller is her maiden name or if it is a second marriage |

Just looked at the 1911 census again, Porkie and it states that George Thomas was also adopted! I will add this to the 1911 census above. |

Cannot find a birth for Mary Jane in Scarbro' 1873 +/- 1 year under the name Smaller so wonder if William could be a second marriage, |
