I can't check to see if Mary Georgina was the daughter of "my" Frank and Alice Ross as Alice died in 1904 so no 1911 census to check for number of births but Mary Georgina born 1882 died in 1882.

I have always suspected that there was another family, mainly due to the age differences.
The death certificate I have for Frank Ross is for April 1882 so he is a possibility but I guess I will never prove it.

Beverley - Not sure if this is the same Poplar one which you saw - it's the only one I can find - he's married with children, and is a labourer from Galway.

Thanks, Pam. You wondered if he might have been Scottish. ScotlandsPeople has no Frank Rosses born anywhere in Scotland between 1835 and 1845. There are 2 Francis Rosses born 1841 and one in 1842, but I can't follow them conclusively through the censuses. There's one born in 1840, but it's not him, as he can be traced throughout.
On Ancestry I haven't found any Frank or Francis Rosses who are plumbers/gas-fitters/similar. Neither have you, obviously!

There's a Francis Ross on the 1871 census in Poplar, Middx. y.o.b. 1841, perhaps someone with a sub could see if this is him? Alice Sawyer was single and a servant in 1871. I wonder if she was his second wife, looking at the big age diference?

argyllgran,
I'm not 100% sure but he is a Gasfitter on the 1881 census and that is his occupation on my grandmother's marriage certificate.
He died of Phthisis Pulmonalis (tuberculosis of the lungs with progressive wasting of the body, consumptive condition) which seems to fit with his presence in St. Michaels Home.

Well I have looked and looked and I can't find him on any census other than the one you put up.
I wonder if he was Francis Ross?

In 1881 (above) Frank is a patient in St Michael's Home.
"St Michael's Home is an institution for consumptive patients who are members of the Church of England. "
http://ukga.org/england/Somerset/towns/Cheddar.html
Can I ask, how do you know this is the right Frank Ross?

My great grandfather was Frank Ross. My great grandmother was Alice Mary Sawyer (Little Haseley, Oxfordshire)
Todate I have been unable to find a marriage registration for them.
Frank is on the 1881 census :

I have a death certificate for Frank Ross dated 1882 on which he is described as a Potman and he is described as such on my grandmother's birth certificate (1880) but my great grandmother was not the informant as Frank died in the Paddington Workhouse.
On my grandmother's marriage certificate Frank is described Plumber (deceased).
I have lots of information on Alice Mary but the 1881 census is the only information I can find on Frank Ross.
My instinct says he was not born in London but was probably born in Scotland but until I can find a marriage certificate (not really expecting to find one ) not sure how I can go back to find his parents.
Any help greatly appreciated.
