sorry not been in touch with updates but lots going on and have not had much time for researching.
brilliant news though with all the help i have been given we are on the right track and the cert came confirming the mothers name of robert John.
along with maiden name as samual
and she did actually marry william edwards as stated on robert johns cert.

today ordered robert john edwards birth cert from gro
estimated arrival 29th april
11a 481
pontypidd
hopefully this will give us the maiden name of his mum
then we know on right track
explaining all this to my dad when i am only a beginner myself is proving to be fun!!

i have found out from chatting to my nan that robert and annie had children but nanan can only remember my grandads name which is philip john edwards and his brother oswald edwards where would i need to research to find further information on that..please

I think you will need Robert's birth cerificate to find out who his mother was.

There are quite a Robert's in the 1901 and 1911 census with a Father William but i can't spot one where both Father and Son are miners.

Can't for the life of me find the 1891.

maybe he was registered as robert john at birth but never used his middle name!!
his son was philip john( my grandad) who i never met but they called him john or jack.
and my dad is philip john but he only uses john!!
i think on the birth cert it does state robert j edwards?
