Find Ancestors

I'm descended from the Drury family of this part of Kent in the early 1800's.

My g-g-grandmother was Mary E. Drury, b. 1827 Sheldwich. She married Godfrey Amos (b. 1834 Challock) in Sheldwich in 1856. The family later migrated to New Zealand.

Mary's parents were Stephen Drury (b. 1797 Throwley) & Mary Epps (b. 1808 Ospringe or possibly in Throwley.)

Stephen's parents were George Drury (b. abt 1761, Sheldwich) & Ann.

I am currently focusing my attention on the ancestry of this Mary E. Drury so I would appreciate any contacts with others who are also interested in the Drury's of this part of Kent.

I haven't yet spent the time trying to connect my Mary to the other Drury's listed in this thread but I will attempt to make some connections soon.

I'm also interested in the town of Newnham, in this general area of Kent. I think that town was quite prominent in this community. Possibly it was the nearest town with a church for recording baptisms, marriages & deaths.

I've just had a look online... seems the Hoare Bank is still going...

I think there was a Lord M of London who had the surname Hoare, and I think it was him who opened a bank in this country, perhaps under a different name now ?

P.s. I like the surname: Sheepwash, how very unusual! I think Richard Sheepwash was one of the witnesses at the marriage; perhaps a family friend ?

James Eldridge died Badlesmere 18. 4. 1830 80y born 1750's nearest to that is a bap Molash 11 .5. 1755 to James and Elizabeth Eldevage ?? the surname can also be Alderidge

the record on other peoples trees has James bap in Hampshire -- I think a bit to far away

I'm researching my family link with Kent at the moment... I think Ann Drury born abt 1828 in Molash Kent parents were: William Drury and Elizabeth Eldrige. Anyone else who can help, please do. I know Ann Drury father was William Drury, and her mother's first name was Elizabeth, but was her surname: Eldrige ? Just want to be sure.

Ok Mavis, yes, very stormy weather!!! But going away soon... :-) Ann Drury born abt 1828 Molash in Kent, her parents were: William Drury and Elizabeth maybe maiden surname: Eldrige, but not sure about her date of birth etc... They seem to have got married 20th Feb 1808.

Hello Mavis, you mentioned Elizabeth Eldrige above she was born abt 1790, who married William Drury. You also mentioned her parents (I think) being James and Sarah. I think Sarah maiden surname was: Hoare. James Eldrige parents may have been: John Eldrige and Sarah Jeffery ? If you can confirm any of this, please get back to me, thanks.

Two people were at John Wise and Ann Drury wedding: William Wise and Sarah Wise, they were probably his brother and sister mentioned above.

I have the marriage C for a John Wise who married an Ann Drury, mentions his father name, he was also called: John Wise. However, can't see his mother's name mentioned anywhere... But think it was: Sarah Theobald. Thinking is ok, but would like to be 100% sure!

So John Wise born abt 1826 in Kent, who married Ann Drury, parents were: John F. Wise and Sarah Theobald. Hope this is correct.
