But Simon is younger than Catharine - perhaps Mary Ann was born illegitimately to Catharine - I have another Scottish ancestor this has happened to and they have led me a merry dance, fibbing about ages and names!
|
Thank you Potty - but - oh dear - I can't even find one marriage for Simon !
Helen

The gap in age between Mary Ann and Catherine is 14 years - I would guess at a second marriage for Simon.

Hi Kathleen Yes I have looked for marriage in Scotland, normal BDI, Marriages and Banns pre 1855 and Catholic Registers but nothing turns up.
Your help is much appreciated.
Thank you

Hi I'm assuming that the 1872 Stockton birth is my gt grandfather, and have the certificate showing Simon Fleming and Catharine Conroy as his parents. I have the 1871 certificate from before his birth. And have the censuses from 1881 showing Simon in Newcastle, and 1901 in Jarrow. I didn't have 1891 so thank you for that one. I also didn't have James in 1901 so thats another help. I don't seem to be able to find all 3 together, or even James and Catharine together. I will try to find them in Scotland I think as I think Catharine may have gone back north.
Many thanks to all Helen

Which site(s) have you used in trying to find info?
How did you learn Catherine's maiden name if you are unsure of the birth details of the son?
|
Hi My gt gt grandparents were Catherine Conroy and Simon Fleming (poss aka James Fleming). They both have Scotland and Stockton/Middlesbrough (co Durham and co Yorkshire) connections, and possibly places between Stockton and Newcastle. I believe their son James Fleming was born in Stockton in 1872. I am unable to find a marriage or census for them. Can anyone give me any pointers please?
Many thanks Helen
