Thank you Anne. All of the above information is very helpful. I have likened this to doing a jigsaw puzzle but without the picture on the box!
Many thanks

Thank you so much for your help. Will dissect the information given now.
I don't have the certificates - money is tight (as all over!) so I have to be sure before spending any more money.
Many thanks

I have found info from both 1861 & 1871 census but cannot find anything on either 1851 or 1881 census.
Info I have is as follows:
George Read born c1812 cabman Elizabeth Read born c1829 wife George born c1849 son William born c1852 son Emma born c1857 daughter Charles (or John) born c1858 son Elizabeth born c1861 daughter Jane born c1863 daughter Fredericka born c1864 daughter Charlotte born c1868 daughter
Marriage occurred in Apr-May-Jun quarter of 1850 in Islington, London between George Frederick Reed and Elizabeth Lucy Scarr.
In 1861 census, George snr is born in "Suffolk, Halham" In 1871 census this has changed to Middx. All other family members are listed on both census' as born in Middx or London.
If anyone could provide further details or offer any ideas on what I should do next, I would be very appreciative.
NB: I have previously posted regarding Reed/Read but became very confused as so many kind people gave directions. I deleted that post as I had become very confused and was reading the same over and over. I am extremely grateful for the help that has been given. I am in no way an expert, and found the huge amount of information difficult to cope with in one post. I have printed that off and have been able to work through it now and make it clearer for myself. Can I say again how very grateful I am for the help that has been given, I would not be as far as I am without it.
:-)
