Sorry for not replying sooner, work commitments and all that. As I privately predicted, father in law is preferring to keep any skeletons in the closet and will not divulge about the mysterious initial on the birth certificate. We know the date of birth, mother's details etc are definite. I've tried to get in touch with a relative on Albert's living sibling in the hope that they may be able to enlighten me or who his father may have been. I fear it may be a lost cause, but I'll keep trying. Thanks for everyone's input on this matter.

I meant the 1 st marriage to Doris Lock - it could have a father even if his mother was'nt married at the time of his birth., he may have known who it was.

have you got confirmation of his birth date from any member of the family ??

otherwise the only other way to confirm it is by getting a copy of his death cert.
which will give the date of birth and place of birth

MC - I think Mavis means his later marriage?

TBA, you haven't replied to my questions on your other thread - where I was trying to establish the actual evidence you have.

This is copied over from that thread:

"I assume you have the birth certificate for the one detailed above - is this something you have ordered or was it in his papers? What does the P stand for?

Does the family confirm this date of birth or is it taken from the birth certificate? And do you know for sure his place of birth?

If your information has come from the Albert P birth certificate it could be the wrong one. Another possibility is that he was born Albert Lewis, and at some point his mother married or lived with a Boneham and he assumed that name. Or he could have been adopted, and born with a completely different name - this information would not be available online, only the adpotion register would contain any details, although his birth is too early for this.

I'm just trying to establish what hard facts you have."

Mavis, where have you picked up a prior marriage for Albert?

Mavis

Mavis Report 6 Jan 2013 15:46

the first marriage may well have some details you could find useful

the witnesses should also help - if family

you can get copies quite easy

There is no father listed on the birth certificate.

Copies of either or both his marriages may help with "father " -- witnessess can also be of great help if members of the family

Yes, Clifford was his only child. Due to a family estrangement, researching this is difficult and its on behalf of Lew's grandchildren, that I'm researching this. They feel they need to understand who they are and where they came from. I was hoping to be able to find Lew's birth father but I doubt we will ever know. Hence why I want to find out his original middle name, hoping it may be a clue to all of this. By Lew's marriage in 1945, he was registered as Lewis and not 'P'.

Flip Report 5 Jan 2013 23:58

Was Clifford his only child, and have you got his birth certificate to see what his father was calling himself at the time?

Flip

Flip Report 5 Jan 2013 23:45

Sorry TBA, I didn't mean to offend, I just meant his birth just isn't recorded under that name so he doesn't exist in the birth records under that name. I dont doubt he existed, as he obviously did, and I sorry for your recent bereavement.

Maybe he adopted the name, maybe his mother changed his name, but he wasn't born wth that name in England/Wales. Alternatively could he have been born overseas?

Either he was born overseas, or his name is not his original name.

He lived to a great old age of 93, I see from the obit.

For a figment of imagination, my family will just imagine Albert Lewis Boneham didnt pass away last month!

Oh, well - Doris is sorted, anyway.

Albert looks a bit more tricky.
