Chris

The baptism you posted mentioned the father as being Thomas and the mother being Matilda....
I have no reference to George's mother so it looked a possibility and was the right year.
However, on George's marriage certificate to Violetta, he names his father as Henry John White.... not Thomas.
:-(

I have a note from another relative stating the following information.... again he assumes this is the right line to be tracing;

George Henry White was born in 1872 in Carlisle Street, Sheffield.
Died 04th October 1925 in Wallsend (49 Thomas Street West)

I have no proof of this though

Gavin

Gavin Report 30 Dec 2012 21:03

Chris, that is certainly the list of names and dates I have... you have given me exact dobs and baptisms... perfect... I hope the baptism route will yeild something further forward...

oh and I had Harriet's maiden name as Garratt?? Though I had her spelt as Harriot

Gavin

Gavin Report 30 Dec 2012 20:51

Chris

That is the line I was following having assumed that George Henry White is a son of Henry John White. Descendant of Thomas and Harriet as per your information.... I just need proof.... somehow.
The information is there... its just tying it up with evidence that it is truly my line.
Without certs I cant be sure... and thus far I have had no joy with certs.

Another thought, do you actually have the birth certificates for the 4 brothers or have you relied on their death registrations for their birth dates?

And, as I asked before, which marriages state George Henry as father and which state the other name? (sorry, getting old I think you said George John?)

The normal channels of research have produced great results, but you now need to try to get into the heads of your ancestors to get any further!

edit: guess we crossed again - sorry don't type too fast these days.

Strange I really expected the later children to get the name different. Could you post years of marriage against them please? It just saves my old fingers!

Hope this isnt confusing as one of my grandads brothers is also named George Henry White...

James Frederick White - lists his father as George Henry White
George Henry White - Lists his father as George William White
Charles William White - Lists his father as George Henry White
Albert White - Lists his father as George William White according to a relative - I have not seen his marriage cert (married Ivy Holyome, not sure of year but it was pre 1947)
Albert was born 01/04/1919 in Wallsend, died 15/01/1981 in Southampton
Ivy was born 11/08/1921 in Hackney, died 28/09/2006 in Andover, Hampshire (information from their daughter Brenda White)

When the junior George got married in 1942, his father (George William) is listed as deceased on the cert.

Cheapest place is the GRO website posted by Gins. If you have the children's birth certificates you should have their 1919 address so this may also confirm or throw out the death.

Incidently, which of the children's marriages recorded their fathers as different? It's just if he did die when they were fairly young memories play tricks - which could be the same for their mother. I was recently asked my first husband's name - which I knew, but couldn't remember his middle name without looking for our marriage! ;-)

But then again, I must be getting old :-D

Are the 2 you are refering too;

9c 372
9c 384

If so, these are the 2 I have already investigated and they showed no information relating to parents. So I didnt bother paying for them to be released (the staff checked into it for me)

Broad Street Sheffield Park, should come under 'Sheffield' as opposed to 'Ecclesall B'

So you have two records (Birth) to send for

Thanks Flip. Which office do I contact to quote that reference too?

Flip Report 30 Dec 2012 19:41

Don't rely on a relatives tree, it may be worth getting the 1925 death certificate to see who registered the death (hopefully Violetta) which should proove whether it is him.

Thank you. Not sure if your second item is feasable as the one I am looking for would have lived to become a father....
The first one could open a new line of investigation. Will wait to see the current line out though

Thank you

Gavin do you know when George (ggf) died and could you confirm that the 1955 death for Violetta is right? Any idea of the year or do you already have his death certificate?

Also, do you know if he served in WW1?

I think our posts crossed, yes I have already seen that death in Tyneside reg district for 1925 - again no probate to check it out.
