I made a mistake in my post, I think. Margaret was born in Usk, Wales, not her mother Mary. I believe that John and Mary were born in Cork, but they stopped off in County Tyrone. This is where my nana originally thought they were from, until I mentioend Cork (which I had read on the records) to her. My aunt and uncle visited the church that Mary and John attended in Tyrone, where records were presumably kept, but it had burned down.

Mary Hurley was born in Usk, she's my great great grandmother.
I know that her parents were form Cork, because when I mentioned Cork to my nana, she said that that ringed a bell and that her aunts mentioned it to her once as where Margaret and John were from.

Yes, they must have had bad memories! Could do with finding them in 1861, nearer to the older children's births, but not having much luck so far.

Birthplaces appear to change with each census !

Mike, the 1871 census shows Mary born Monmouthshire and Elizabeth born Glamorganshire, its just John & William born Ireland?

Yes this is Annie Hurley and I got the name Lennin off the marriage certificate

So maybe parents married there.

One from Cork and the other from Wales ? (though the ages are the same)

Looks like David and Annie Hurley were not registered, as it wasn't compulsary until 1875.... Leo was born in 1879 he has been registered.

EDIT, Rule out Annie Hooley, she's in census 1881 as born Whittington, but with parents Charles and Annie.

and we can also rule out Annie Hollely, born Dronfield, as she is with parents Thomas and Harriet in 1881.
