Well today I had a satisfying - yet frustrating - visit to the library. ..
To reiterate...
The Representation of the People Act 1918 was an Act of Parliament passed to reform the electoral system in the United Kingdom. It is sometimes known as the Fourth Reform Act. This act was the first to include practically all men in the political system and began the inclusion of women. Even after the passing of the Third Reform Act in 1884, only 60%[1] of male householders over the age of 21 had the vote. Following the horrors of World War I, millions of returning soldiers would still not have been entitled to vote in the long overdue general election. (The previous election had been in December 1910. The Parliament Act 1911 had set the maximum term of a Parliament at five years, but an amendment to the Act postponed the general election to after the war's conclusion.) The terms of the Act were:[3] 1. All males over 21 gained the vote in the constituency where they were resident. 2. Women over 30 years old received the vote if they were either a member or married to a member of the Local Government Register, a property owner, or a graduate voting in a University constituency.
So...today I trawled the electoral rolls from 1903 to 1920. I had hoped to find Maria (as a property owning widow) on the electoral rolls even if she was unable to vote in National polls. But if she was there I couldn't find her prior to 1918.
But from 1918, Charles, then aged 39, should have figured. And I had previously not found him until Spring of 1920. So today I literally read every page of the Spring 1918 electoral roll...and I found him about 120 pages in. Curiously, he WAS at 36 Constance Street with Maria. She, as Owner/Occupier qualified, was listed alone in Division 1. He, residence qualified only, was a further six or so pages on in Division 2.
Of course, there is no sign of Eva Bevan. She would not be qualified to vote for another 10 years by which time both Maria and Charles had died.
I found no trace of the Bevans (specifically Eva) in Clytha Park Road or adjoining Oakfield Road.
So now I am absolutely goggle eyed (though it did answer another outstanding thing which I will update on my other post).
I still think that Eva Bevan was living in Constance Street with Maria and Charles - from when, I know not. They must have moved to Bridgwater together but why he does not show on electoral roll is another thing altogether. He should be at the address he died at at least in Spring 1926 unless he had already left there (in hospital maybe) before the ER was taken. So all I can conclude is that when he/they moved to Bridgwater, they did not live immediately at that address.

Morning Jude,
You keep coming up against dead ends on this one!! For what it's worth, I think the 1881 census you posted on 6 May could be worth following up on - she's the only one left we haven't eliminated.
Sorry I can't help much with searches at the moment - still no phone line - but have you tried tracing the other children (Ellen we already know was with parents in 1911) see if Eva turns up with any of them, maybe under their married names? Looks like Thomas married Lydia Price in 1870 (Hereford), Eva was christened 8/8/1880 at Llanrothal but familysearch has this transcribed as Beavan. Ellen, Emily and Elizabeth Mary were all christened there.
Also, and I dread suggesting this after the last fiasco, but have you looked for probate for Thomas (think d1917 Kington) or Lydia (d1927, Ross)?

I was contacted by the wife of Edith and Mervyn's grandson asking if I had any more info on his mother. So I have shared what we found on this thread (in all its salubrity lol).
I won't post everything here because it is somewhat sensitive and there are living people to consider.
However, one of the things I have found out through this contact is that on one of the daughters' birth the informant was Beatrice Chadwick, present at the birth.
I go back several pages....

Yes it is Dea - I have sent for the certificate out of curiosity but it fits with being her. William was her and Edith's father and on Edith's marriage certificate to Charles he was a master mariner.
But she is lying big time....in 1908 she was 35 - 1891 and 1901 census show her as 1874 and this is the bmd
Births Dec 1873 (>99%) Mathias Beatrice Ann Newport M 11a 202
Chris thanks for those...she maintained the deception until her death in 1946.....

I am now trying to tie up some loose ends with the Mathias family. Mabel Edith's brother was Theophilus Jones Mathias born 13 August 1879 (schools admission)
I have him in 1881 and 1891 censuses. I have a reference for the Anglo-Boer Wars 1899-1902 In 1901 Kelly's he is at Glanyrafon Caerleon Village - which is the address for his sisters Mary Martha and Beatrice in 1901 - but he's not there. And I can't find him in 1911 either.
Then I have a reference for him being awarded the British War and Victory medals in 1919
But I can't find a death for him. I did find one, but that was for a Theophilus Mathias born 1902
Any fresh eyes would be good!

It could be him Mavis. But I don't think he married Florence Vickery....I think the Theophilus SHE married was the one born 1902 (died 1966) - I had already looked into this - she was born 1903.
The younger Theo was his nephew (son Of his brother William Benjamin)
This is interesting though
