Right got Phyllis birth certificate.......and it shows that Lena was her mother, no father listed. What throw us was that Lena had only just turned 15 when Phyllis was born.

Now thats solved,
Thanks for all your help

Maud has never been mentioned by anyone in the family, so will have to do some asking around, just to see if she is one of our Bindings.

I will be even more interested now that I see you have Lena and her family actually included in your tree already !! ;-)

Can't wait!!! :-D

Good ! - do come back to this thread and post the details for us when it arrives.

Post on here please - do not start a new thread as we may need to refer back to details on here.

You will find it by clicking on 'My threads' to the left of this board.

Look forward to seeing the result.

I think you are mis-reading again Sean.

We are not suggesting that Phyllis is the daughter of Dorothy or Natalie, or indeed, their mother Kate.

What has been suggested is the 'possibility' that Phyllis 'could' be the daughter of Lena, or of the other person who's details and family have also been posted, i.e. Maud ??

Of course, these are the only two possibles who are in Portsmouth on the 1911 census. - The 'mother' may have not even been in the area at that time, so the only way this can be soved is by getting the birth cert for Phyllis which will tell you for certain who her mother was.

Sorry just reread, Meant to say that Kate was not the mother. In 1911 he was back in Portsmouth with his children alone. Phyllis is not the daughter of either Dorothy or Natalie as we know all their children.

Dea

Dea Report 6 Sep 2012 14:27

It wasn't who Sean ???

I don't understand your post?

Dea
I've researched George Binding and Yes he did came back from SA 1910/11. His wife Kate died in SA so we know it was not her.

Dea

It's all guesswork though - there are good reasons for suspecting both of these girls but we need to prove it!

It will probably end up being neither of them !

Dea i think you should change your board name to "Madame Clouseau"! :-D

Dea

Yes, Maud does seem a good candidate for those very reasons Reggie but without the cert it will be impossible to know.

You will note that Lena had a sister Dorothy and her other sister Natalie had the middle name of Gwendolyn ???.

If the 2 births found are to the same mother (the one we are seeking), then one was Dorothy (1916) and the other (1911) had the middle name of Gwendolyn. - Coincidence ?????

I latched on to Maud as she was living away from 'home', although still with a family member, and was not recorded as having an occupation.

BUT......anything any of us posts is speculative...........the birth cert is absolutely essential

Dea

Dea Report 6 Sep 2012 13:31

George's Army records (Lena's father) show him to be back on British soil on 1st February, 1911. - Plenty of time............... ;-)

But who's to say the baby wasn't conceived in SA?

Could have passed morning sickness of as sea sickness!

Really need the cert.

Dea

Dea Report 6 Sep 2012 13:17

It doesn't take long to 'have a fling' Rootgatherer ;-)

If the child were born towards the end of the December Quarter, it may only just have been conceived at the time the census was taken!

Mind you, the birth cert is essential here as the mother may not even have been in the Portsmouth area before the birth took place - she could well have travelled from anywhere.

I wondered about that one too Dea. The thing putting me off was that the 1 year old son was born in South Africa so probably the family weren't long back in England.

Dea

Dea Report 6 Sep 2012 12:44

I would have thought that Lena would also be a possible Reggie as she would have been almost 16 when the child was born? - Not unheard of for an 'unmarried mother' ?
