As the birth record gives the mother's maiden name as Binding, there probably won't be a father's name on the certificate. |

Looking at the birth record, you will only find out who her mother was |

These are all the female Bindings in Portsmouth as per 1911 census |

This seems to be the only likely mother if indeed the mother was living in Prtsmouth at the time of the 1911 census. |

The only way to be sure is to invest £9.25 in Phyllis's birth cert............... |

I would have thought that Lena would also be a possible Reggie as she would have been almost 16 when the child was born? - Not unheard of for an 'unmarried mother' ? |

I wondered about that one too Dea. The thing putting me off was that the 1 year old son was born in South Africa so probably the family weren't long back in England. |

But who's to say the baby wasn't conceived in SA? |

George's Army records (Lena's father) show him to be back on British soil on 1st February, 1911. - Plenty of time............... ;-) |

I latched on to Maud as she was living away from 'home', although still with a family member, and was not recorded as having an occupation. |

You will note that Lena had a sister Dorothy and her other sister Natalie had the middle name of Gwendolyn ???. |

Yes, Maud does seem a good candidate for those very reasons Reggie but without the cert it will be impossible to know. |

It's all guesswork though - there are good reasons for suspecting both of these girls but we need to prove it! |
