Think I have added all the Sager's I am confident with to my tree, fingers crossed. I also read some where that it was common practice for Germans called Muller to change their name once they were in the uS to Miller.

Looking at the Sager's, can you recall if we ever found out the surnames of these wives?

I am seeing double looking at all these Sager's and Marks :-(

We are certain that Jane ( age30) and Melinda are the same person.

Samuel's wife on previous and on subsequent returns is entered as Melinda or Melinda J.
Only 1880 is different, but her age is correct.
The 1880 return is faded, but it does indeed look like she has been entered as Jane.

Edit:
From memory, these are all children born to Samuel and Melinda.
A later return has a child of Angelia on it, (Jennie Miller) entered as grandchild of Melinda

Samuel died between 1900 and 1910. Melinda is widowed at 1910 and her granddaughter Jennie Miller is living with her

1870 Census William Archabald aged 7 is really William Reid the son of James Reid and Jane Mark.

1880 Census William Reel aged 17 is William Reid as per previous census


James Reid father of William died abt 1865 and Jane Reid nee Mark then emigrated with her son to America and married James Russell Archibald the husband of her sister Mary.


Yet to find out if and when but William Reid emigrated to Canada.

Hi Eringobragh1916,

That marriage thing confused me as well, so I thought I would throw, from something Moody Blue sent me, into the pot just to add to the confusion.

Mary and James were married 7th January 1857 in New York (their marriage was later solemnized in the Endowment House in Salt Lake City on 8th of August 1860)

They arrived in Salt Lake City 17th September 1859 and the family came to Cache Valley in the spring of 1860 and they settled in Wellsville.

When her widowed mother-in-law Elizabeth Russell Archibald, and her four youngest children, arrived in Utah in 1862, Mary and James shared their humble home with them. While they were still living in Wellsville her husband married a plural wife, Mrs. Jane Mark Reed, she had previously been married to James Geerson Reed. Jane was Mary’s younger sister.

In the spring of 1877, James moved both of his families to Clarkston, Cache, Utah where he died very suddenly on 17th February 1891.
