More help please? - Ansell/Watkins family. I'm not sure if I should post this as a new thread somewhere else?
My grandfather, William F Watkins (22.05.1904) had 4 sisters, Dorothy Rose (6.2.1894, East Ham), Mabel Victoria (11.5.1897, Essex), Elizabeth Winifred (17.10.1899, Barking) & Effie Caroline (4.6.1901, Essex). The youngest girls (and William) were in an orphan house in Bristol for 7 years and the family had adresses in Devizes, London & Somerset.
I found a possible marriage of Dorothy to a Leonard Sullivan in 1915 and in IGI record (that I can no longer find online) a death 15.04.1976.
I found a death record for an Elizabeth W Watkins (age 53) in Bristol, 1953.
Effie appears to have married Charles A Ansell in Bristol, 1923 and had the following possible children: Janet Ansell (1923 Bristol), Anthony Ansell (1924 Woolwich), Susan Ansell (1935 Wantage), Patrick Ansell (1934 Wantage), John J Ansell (1936 Wantage). Then a second marriage to Michael J Gaule ( in 1937, Wantage) and another child, Terence Gaule (1938 Wantage).
Is it possible to find out if any of these Ansell / Gaule or other children are still alive? I'd love to know more about my grandfather and the family from them. I left a John Ansell a message on GR as he has an Effie Watkins in his tree - but I haven't had a reply...
Any help / suggestions would be really appreciated!

Hi Eleanor,I think whichever site you get the birth cert from it will have the same info.
Only difference will be the price.I think the GRO is the cheapest.

Thanks again everyone!

I think I probably need to get hold of the Mullenden / Bebbington marriage certificate for confirmation?

Chris - I found the birth certificate for Vera Bebbington on the website you mentioned. Do you know what further info I might get if I order it from them rather than the GRO?

...Just a trivial coincidence to finish....When I went to see my father with the death certificate etc, he told me that Anna 'Watkins' (our Olympic gold medal winning rower) had the maiden name 'Bebington'!

Thanks again Maryb!

Out of interest, how did you work out the names? When I put Hulse and Bebbington into free BMD, I had at least 4 marriages in Nantwich.

Thank-you again Maryb!

I'm going to go and see my father now and drop this bombshell on him!

By the way, I think he would want to go and visit his mother's grave if it could be found. Is there any way of finding out where someone is buried? You probably know this, but it doesn't give any information about burial on the death certificate.

Marriege??
Alfred F Mullenden married Vera Bebbington
Tonbridge Kent
J/A/S 1934 2a 3163.

I would think this is 99% possibility.

Vera Bebbington A/M/J 1913 mum nee Hulse
Natwich
Cheshire
8a 586

Alfred frederick Mullenden born 2/7/1912 died Lambeth 1981
Alfred frederick Mullender July 1912 in Tonbridge Kent mum nee Mason.
One in the same person I think.

Alfred remarried Dec 1938 to Elizabeth Hoban.

Thank-you! I didn't think to search death records for a Veronica Mullender. I've tried looking for a marriage record for Veronica and Alfred, but can't find anything. I wanted to know Veronica's Maiden name. I've also now messaged everyone one with an Alfred Mullender (of an appropriate age) in their family tree!

I always wondered why my grandfather was left to bring up a baby on his own, without the help of any relatives (only friends). If the baby was from an affair, maybe the family disapproved? My grandfather never re-married, or even married..as it turns out!

Still can't find her birth or marriage to Alfred Mullender.

Eleanor Report 4 Aug 2012 14:55

Looking at the age, I'm sure it can't be 85. There are two other handwritten '8's on the page and they are clearly different. So possibly the age is 35?

tempest Report 4 Aug 2012 14:30

sounds like Veronica was married to Mr Mullender and then they seperated, Veronica then having your father to W F Watkins

just looking to see if I can find anything

Eleanor

Eleanor Report 4 Aug 2012 14:14

Veronica Watkins' death certificate has arrived...I don't understand what's going on!
Firstly, I went to double check my Father's birth certificate yesterday incase it was a copy and the name Beddington had been transcribed wrongly. However, it was the 1936 original and his mother's maiden name clearly looks correct.

Now to the death certificate:
When & where died : Sixteenth February 1938, Grove Park Hospital, Mottingham, Chislehurst and Sidcup RD (*might not be 'RD'*)
Name and surname: Veronica Mullender (otherwise Watkins)
Sex: Female
Age: 85 (* the first number isn't too clear*)
Occupation: of the Fire Station, High Street, Hommerton E9, wife of Alfred Mullender a Lance Corporal 1st Royal West Kent Regiment
Cause of Death: **Pulmonary Tuberculosis Certified by C E Garrod MB (*not sure of letters in the last name*)
Signature, description and residence of informant: W F Watkins present at the death. The Fire Station, High Street, Homerton E9
When registered: Seventeenth February 1938
Signature of registrar: SCG (*?*) Swain Deputy Registrar.

Ideas?
