Perhaps not at present but later maybe something will just help to make a link with the Benjamin Watson on Sarah Ann's marriage cert. |

It's been a while but I thought I'd let you good people know my findings. Vera, your wild suggestion was a winner, I found Mary Ann Godfrey's burial in 1888. She was buried along with children named Andrews, in a grave owned by an Andrews ( my Sarah married an Andrews ) The death cert named her son George Watson. I found a marriage for him to a Martha Hewitt (witnesses at Sarahs wedding ) Sarah was a witness at theirs. I also have the marriage of Mary a Watson and Bentley Godfrey. Mary's father was George Barthorpe. I then got a look at Harriet's birth ( Sarah's sister) That upset things because mothers maiden name on this was Nicholson. I looked at births again and found another Harriet, b. Mar 1842. Bingo! same details as Sarah. I just need to find marriage and possibly death fot Thomas, Could it possibly be Mary Bartrop and Thomas Watson Q4 1841 East Retford, Nottinghamshire? |

Remember that at that time many people were unable to read or write so the spelling of surnames was really down to the choice of the registrar. A lot depended upon the accent of the person giving the information and whether the registrar was used to the local accent. For what it's worth, I think that Barthorpe and Bartrop could reasonably refer to the same surname. |
