Thanks Shirley. Yes Mary Bass in 1926 at Philip Road but she used Lilian Mary or Mary Lilian in those years. UNTIL - and here is the mystery - in 1932, 1933, 1934 and 1935 - there is no Lilian Mary or any other Lilian BUT an Ann Mary Bass who was his legal wife (nee Connor). Once she disappeared from the 1936 electoral register then back comes Lilian Marian who seems to like a change in her second christian name. What a mystery!!! Have a lovely CHristmas and thanks for all your help with one thing and another throughout the year. |

Hello again. I only see three names on the 1939 census - Henry F Bass, Lilian Mabel Wass (Bass) and Ernest J Weaver. Where did you find the child Irene Bass please? |

Thanks Shirley. That must be her as she disappeared then from the electoral roll where she was living at 27 Philip Road Camberwell with Henry Frederick Bass. (He died Sept 1959) When the granddaughter replies to me she may be able to tell me if there was an actual marriage but I doubt it. Her grandmother was Clara the sister of Lilian and Maud. Maud died and left her husband a widower with a small son at the address - ie Frederick Margrove and his son James aged 5. I am on the brink here! Who this LIlianb person was has been bugging me for 5years now! |

Thanks to the 1939 census I have recently been contacted by a great niece of the Lilian M Bass I was asking about. However she was really Lilian M Wass and took Henry Frederick Bass's name. I hope to find out more very soon. Everything comes to those who wait eh? ;-) |

Maybe Mary Ann just moved in with someone else and assumed her new partners name just like Lilian Mary did? |

Oh - I see what you mean now. There is also a Lilian Mary Bass who lived with my uncle from the 1920's to his death in 1959 but this is not the same lady. I thought that a post with New Zealand in the headlines re Mary Ann Bass would maybe attract a GR member down under to assist. Thanks for your help. Jennifer |
