Ha ha you kept that one quiet. I'll take a look for a parish doc for William's birth although I think i've already been there today.

Well the Jane was a surprise and the reg looked like a certainty but you have to see if you can back it up before shelling out money.

I didn't find a burial for Jane Rawlinson at the workhouse. I did find her at the workhouse in 1881 as a widow. It seems unlikely that Robert if its is Robert G would see his wife in the workhouse if the scenario is correct that he left his wife for Deborah, had a child with her, planned to marry her and is a Curate's son but you never know.

Where did you find the burial details for the Jane in the workhouse?

Hello Vera,

Found the burial entry on ancestry....it was exciting seeing it. I was beginning to doubt that i had the correct info. I only found the birth certificate by assuming Williams mother was called Deborah as that is the name he gave his first daughter.

By you finding the buriel record and the address is registered at Alice Street, it confirms for defo that its right.

Still unsure of the death though, as previous post, I have found the buriel of Jane Rawlinson at the workhouse but she is classed as a widow. Robert was defo alive as he attended his sons wedding on 5th June 1882

What do you think?

Suzanne EDIT sorry I was cutting and pasting (badly) whilst you were posting,

I have already posted Deborah's death cert. Her death is registered in the name of Jane Rawlinson. This one will give informant but it may not be a family member.

The burial register does not have any informant. Will try to PM it to you. Otherwise PM me your e mail addrress.

It looks good for that Robert Gornell being your man.

Not sure if that the correct Jane Rawlinson. I have found a jane on the 1881 census, living in the west derby workhouse for the poor and sick....thought that could be a possible but it says she is a widow!

Vera has posted one above which is in the name of Jane Rawlinson (death was Deborah Jane) - It is the correct age, and correct quarter and district so it looks like that may be the one.

Although, I am not sure as there is a Jane Rawlinson in the Workhouse infirmary on 1881 who is down as a widow and a 'charwoman' - the age fits for that death (and for our Deborah) so it may or may not be the one we are looking for. :-( :-S

Yes Dea,

That was the one.....i think too many coincidences for it not to be.

Do you have any idea why i cant find a death cert for deborah on any site?

Suzanne,

Please remove your personal e-mail address as firstly it is against the GR Rules.

Secondly, it is not safe to put it on here as the boards are public and the info will be available on google within minutes for the whole world to see.

pm her your e-mail if she needs to have it.

looking back at the 1881 census, it makes you wonder where Deborah was....she isnt living with Robert and William. perhaps she is in a hospital somewhere or back in Ireland?

Vera,

Dont know how you found that death for Deborah but it is definately correct. If you could send me a copy I would be extremely grateful. Does it tell you who registered the death?.....i'm so excited. :-)

The Robert Rawlinson death isnt correct though, so at least the possibility that it is Robert G could still be true. ~Perhaps he was married to 2 different women!

Hello Dea,

OMG...such a great response!

The second birth certificate states that Roberts occupation is Merchants Clerk and it says Deborah Rowlinson formerly Peelow.

In response to Vera... the death certificate of Robert Rawlinson in 1882 isnt the correct one, as i ordered this thinking it was correct and it belongs to a Robert Rawlinson who was born in liverpool and married to mary ann turton. his occupation was a dyer....so can disclaim that. The theory of Deborah being ill and getting married is a possibility, especially if it is true.

Thanks Dea.

Unfortunately no parish records for that Robert death. I'll look at your Robert G again. Just noticed that Deborah J's reg was West Derby as is Robert G's and 'my' Robert's is Liverpool.

Thaks for the above Vera.

However, what you have found for Robert's death may well have 'upset the apple cart' ???

We have been looking at the death for Robert Gornall Rowlandson:

Robert died in 1883:

Deaths Jun 1883
ROWLANDSON Robert Gornell 49 W.Derby 8b 390

I DO hope there were not 2 Robert & Deborah's :-( :-(

I don't think there were though as we would surely have found them before??

The death you have given for Deborah must be correct because of the address but I hope that the death you found for Robert is not the right one :-S

Thanks for the info though - It all helps.

Suzanne

Possibly supporting theory the couple did not marry. On the original record for the banns, those who subsequently married are shown by adding it to the banns record. Rober and Deborah's record did not have 'married' added to their record of banns.

I wonder if they knew Deborah was sick and chose to marry before her death.
