Emigration 1868 fits in nicely and his Dad was also a blacksmith. His brother-in-law owned an Iron Foundry here in Scotland so Jonathan's parents were pretty well looked after in their old age. Jonathan must have been fairly comfortable too to be able to make so many trips home. |

Isn't it great when it (all?) falls into place! |

Thank you both so much. That 1900 census with the kids is great! It confirms that the family that I have in Sorel, Richelieu, Quebec is the correct family. I had been looking at it for years but didn't want to add them to my tree without some more proof. |

Looks as though it says Can-English as per the places of birth of the two daughters, so I presume Canada - trying to get to grips with the Ancestry site! |

Thank you too Maureen. The birthplaces that you have given me for his daughters is helpful. I wonder if the year of emigration may referred to when they moved from Canada to USA rather than from Scotland. |

Thank you so much Stuart. That looks like my man as I assume that Jane F is a daughter named for his Mum. I was hoping that his wife would have been alive then to tie in with the 1881 census that I have. |
