Thank you Pam. I wondered about the Kinsale birth. It seems a long way from his place in Rineen, but then remembered seeing an early record of a John Driscoll, of the right age, on a ship. The family stayed in the dock area of London, and even my father was a sailor....so maybe they were a little more 'at sea' in terms of moving about? |

I was told that the sponsors of children could not be the grandparents? Is that correct? I shall hunt John and Eliza anyway. |

Confirmed that John is father, Catherine is mother. Confirmed the 1871 census is correct for family. Would seem that there is both a Johanna and Anne Driscoll in the family. I guess my G Grandmother is the 1867 Anne. Have been contacted by Catherine (Kate)'s ancestor who says she married Mark Henley in March 1885, St Olaves, Rotherhithe and father on cert is John, and a Johanna (Sibling) signed as witness. |

Yeah, I suspect they were too young. I have that record too. I couldn't find that 1871 census result further up. I am a novice....not sure if you can search through the Hanover St address? It is not coming up on my ancestry searches. Can anyone give me a link I can get to via ancestry records? |

This could be the McCarthy marriage you refer to. Father of John is Daniel a Farmer. Father of Catherine is James a Cook General. Witnesses John and May or Mary Driscoll. They are said to be full age so not sure that would fit with Hannah (Anna)'s dob of 1867. |

Question....in the 1901 census where there were 2 strikes next to her name....where else was she recorded as living? Is it possible to track that? If she was still with family members then it might identify her father? Maybe? Can census's record her twice? |

Oh, just playing catch up on what people have offered. I think that Hannah, Johanna, Anne and Anna and even Jane, are used interchangeably by the Irish. It is possible she was Ann. I haven't seen the 1871 census with John and Catherine, with Thomas and Mary. I shall see what I can find with them. :- |

Well....apparently she was just known as Annie, and the family don't seem to know too much. Her son Edward was my grandfather, and he only had two sons. My dad died when I was young and my uncle is unwell. I am also in Christchurch New Zealand, so missed out on any of the family talk. I have not met anyone other than immediate cousins. I did hear from my grandfathers cousin who said that her death cert recorded John as her father. But I have also been tracking the William and Catherine family as that is what my cousins thought Annie's father was named. I have sent away for a couple of certificates in the hope that it might lead me further. |

The only Rotherhithe birth that would appear to fit is this one but the fathers name is William: |
