Catherine - that's fantastic! It was only today that I bought Johns death certificate to discover his exact date of death and I was going to apply for a copy of his will soon . . . . so he left almost £23,000 . . . as you say wow!

In todays money that's worth 2,175,637.80 ! ! !

I suspected he was wealthy.

I didn't know you could get that much information on a will on line.

1901 is the Boer War so could he have been in the army?

Possible he was abroad there are quite a few George W. Robinson coming into England from various places around the world?

Do you not have any idea of his occupation?

The Leeds 1899 marriage:

West Yorkshire, England, Marriages and Banns, 1813-1935
Name: George Watson Robinson
Birth Year: abt 1873
Age: 26
Marriage or Bann Date: 26 Aug 1899
Parish: Leeds, St John
Father's Name: James William Robinson << wrong dad.
Spouse's Name: Emily Garth
Spouse's Father's Name: Thomas Garth

Liverpool, Lancashire, England, Marriages and Banns, 1813-1921 a
Name: George Watson Robinson

Marriage Date: 17 Jun 1897
Parish: Toxteth St Clement
Spouse's Name: Rosina Elizabeth Jones

Are we just assuming Watson was his middle name because there's a birth around the right time? (Or have I missed something?)

EDIT: Oops, didn't realise we'd moved onto page 2.

I think that is George W on 1881 census and not J W.
When you view original it looks like Geo W Robinson.

I can't find his dad John on 1891 although he should be at 1,Villa terrace as on 1881 and 1901 census.

Has George been found in 1911.

Arthur looks to have married Mary Byrne.
1881 he is in Yorkshire
1891 Elswick
1901 Gateshead

The J W in 1881 I think is James W, George's sibling. In 1861 they are together and James is 5yrs old, so in 1881 he would have been 25yrs old.

This is the death for the George Watson Robinson who married Rosina Elizabeth Jones in Toxteth Park. This makes his date of birth as 1868 so we can rule this one out!

J/F/M 1909 South Shield
George Watson Robinson married either Matilda Lovell or Annie Plews 10a 1071.
Certainley right area .

It isn't the same George who married Susan Ann Toyn as they she is still alive on 1911 census.

So where is he 1881/91/1901/11???

Looked at all the people on Wapping Street 1901 didn't see George!!

I'm sure I have found my George W Robinson in 1911. He appears in the Summary Book as G W Robinson. What is the difference between an entry in the main census to an entry in the summary book?

Why is he not listed in the main census?

Mary

Mary Report 14 Apr 2012 20:18

Just had a look on 1911 census at all the G W Robinson's,there doesn't seem to be one with right age.
Did it give an age on the one you have found? and where about was he living.

When I looked at the 1911 censu for G W Robinson no ages are given!

This is the entry I found, I think it's the correct one as in 1909 he was living in South Shields. No family and it appears he was living in a rented property, and just 2 years earlier his father left almost £23,000 in his will.

Update!

I would like to thank evenyone who answered my post about George W Robinson.

I have just discovered that his middle name was Watson and only last night I discovered why he could not be found on the 1891, 1901 & the 1911 UK census - he was in Australia !

On the British Newspaper Archive site I found an 1886 marriage notice from the "Manchester Courier and Lancashire Advertiser" that reads:- Robinson-Dagnall, at St. Peter's Church, Woolmoomaloo, Sydney, N.S.W. by the Rev. T. B. Tress, George Watson Robinson, of Hyde Park, Sydney, second son of John Robinson Esq., F.C.A., Stockton on Tees, to Margaret the only daughter of John Dagnall Esq., of Broughton, Manchester.

He obviously came home in time for his father's death as he was the informant on the death certificate but I find it strange that he gave an address of Wapping Street, South Shields on the certificate. Perhaps that was where he stayed while in England & not his father's house.
