Yes, Patchem that was the one - just a thought that she may have been with family and 'dittoed'as Booth, and as she was born in Chorlton. Another one to discount it seems

She just doesnt want to be found!

Ivy

Ivy Report 11 Mar 2012 08:31

One problem is that they had such an extended view of family. I had trouble finding my ggg grandmother in 1851, until I discovered that she had been previously married and was visiting her deceased first husband's little sister shortly after the little sister had married....

Ivy

Ivy Report 11 Mar 2012 08:35

- what about the French maid in 1911? I note that she is a British subject by parentage, which perhaps suggests that she might have only been in France for a short period after birth - or might Edith have brought her back from a visit to Paris?

- there are a few instances of female Denton arriving back from foeign parts. One of these is shown as Mrs, but the image clearly says Miss Denton, nurse. Nicola, do you know if any of the family were abroad around 1901?

Ivy

Ivy Report 11 Mar 2012 08:38

Edith A's sister, Ethel Marion b 1872 Chorlton married in 1901 late in the year. Can't find her in 1901 either. Wonder if they went shopping to France for the wedding.

Regarding the passenger list Ivy found.......I cannot read the name after the E in Mrs E Denton..........next to Mrs Dentons name in the column " Adults of 12 years and upwards" it states 2.

Nicola'S Report 11 Mar 2012 15:59

Gosh you've all been so busy! I've just turned my back for a mo and got out into the garden and there's all this waiting for me!!!

You are all correct in everything that you've come up with. I had managed to find all that, i.e., her mother's death [three days after the birth of little Ethel], the errant brother Arthur Lockwood Trevor Booth[e] who had a VERY colourful life, the other sister Edith Aline, Edith's marriage and offspring, Ethel's marriage and offspring, etc., etc. I have great history on all of that.

It's just WHERE ON EARTH IS SHE in 1901?

Elusive gal.

I'll be back to this again later this evening.

BIG thank you to you all. :-D

Sorry, Madmeg etc, but Nicola just asked for her in the 1901 census.

Perhaps Nicola should have stated that she had all the other information, and I think she could have said that she had the husband and daughter in 1901 but I think she was clear that it was the 1901 census that she wanted.

When people go off and find other information it surely is at their own risk as some people, not necessarily anyone on here, do seem to take delight in repeating whatever has been stated. To try and find her in 1901 can involve knowing more about her, but it is up to each of us individually to decide how much time to spend on looking, and when to stop. (And whether to spend money or not)
