:-D :-D :-D :-D

Pretty certain that Hilda (aka) Peggy is the mother of Z.

As I said in an earlier post-I think this woman is still alive and I do think we should respect her privacy until we have an OK .

Hi I have written to everyone that has HIlda Childs name on their tree in England hope I get a reply, I sat all afternoon looking over all my info, I agree I think Hilda is Peggy, but still waiting to see who this Margaret Ellen is that is in the same cemetery as James, did anyone find out who the mother of Zena/ Zella was. I'm 68 and my memory is a bit dodgy especially having a family like my ancestors, I cant understand all those names

She's confused at 90? Bless her!

Coughing slightly-I'm turning 60 this year and believe me I'm wondering about my own memory.

I do hope that one of the American family members gets in contact with you as I'm sure that they would love to see a copy of the photos.

(Maryb -how is that going??)

Hi, Hilda must have been quite common in England, as that was my grandmothers name - James sister and he also had a sister in law HIlda that married his brother Alfred, as to the photo it was hand written and black and white Zena she looks about 8-10 years old, when I look at the writing it could be Zella, my aunt says that might have been her name, she gets a bit confused at times well she is 90 years old
I also have another one where he looks much younger it being sepia color and it says uncle Jim Childs taken in Canada pre 1938.

Heather,
Does it really say"James Childs and Zena taken in Canada pre 1938"? What an odd thing to write on the back of a photo!

Scotland genealogy (post-what is it- 1855?) is wonderful and yes,I've done a lot of look ups on Scotlands People! No,America and Canada don't have anything similar. (other than the SSDI records for Americans or those who had a Social Security number).
Canada in particular is very strict about privacy and obtaining records.
Like the other helpers I'm convinced that Hilda and "Peggy" are the same person. How fast would a horse go if someone named Hilda were riding it???? (I apologise to everyone out there with that wonderful name.)

Personally I think that Zena and Zella are the same person as well.
Could you tell us about the back of that photo? (gosh I take a long time getting to the point!) Is the notation hand written and easy to decipher? Just thinking that 2 tiny "l's do look like an "n"...

Better stop while I'm behind!

Regards to all,
Maureen

Hi Maureen, it says on the back James Childs and Zena taken in Canada pre 1938
I was wondering would he have been married 3 times, is there anyway that I can look up marriages. In scotland we have a site called Scotlands People and you can look up bmd if you buy credits, do they have anything like that in America

Thanks ***alviegal*** I'd forgotten about the marriage details, and if Heather knew Clara that confirms it.

Well it certainly is a convoluted story, and I don't think you've got to the bottom of it yet.

Hi Mary, you have got it right, I was wonder if the James born 1880 was one I didnt know about, and he died soon after birth, and I think that is where the mix up is with birth dates as Arthur James known as James was born either 1888 or as his memorial says 1890, maybe he was pretending to be 2 yrs younger thean he really was, its so good of you to try and work all this out for me, I have had trouble working things out with both my English family and my Scottish one and also my husbands, I got to the stage I was trying to do it all at the one time, now I am trying to concentrate on one at a time

Hi Ozbird,I think the James on 1881 census was born shortly after they married in 1880.
On 1911 Clara had 7 children 2 childern that had died,I think this was James 1880 and Ernest born @ 1887.died 1905.
If I remember the other 5 were accounted for.
Alfred William 1881 married magaret Dineen?
Clara Bertha 1883 married Fred Garley
James 1888
Sidney 1890 married I think Maude M Parrott.

Heather, I beg to differ. The person I have posted has a mother, H P Roberts. Hilda Percival Childs married a Mr Roberts (on page 1) There is mention of Worthing and San Diego in previous postings. Her mother's marriage was in Victoria, Canada.
I really think this is your Zena.
