Whoa! You guys have been busy! Thank you!
Sorry I did not come back before, for some reason the site would not let me log in.
Well, this is all very interesting! For a start, I did not know David was a widower in 1911, that is very odd. And yes that is the correct David Henry, with the David Henry b. 1904 my grandfather.
Lily was his sister and I have had no luck finding her, family story is she moved to the US and married a 'chocolate millionaire' there! I guess Whitman or Hershey but who knows if it is even true.
***So where were the 2 children in 1911? I assume they are not with their father? And that Lydia is nowhere to be found. The remarriage is a big surprise!***
I agree that the Auckland Lydia is not the right one. This is what happens when you are bored and start looking at things again, not checking what you already know!!! So now I have to go back and re-enter William CHAPMAN and Emma MORLEY and their children into my tree. I had always been a bit dubious about this Lydia because she does not appear in 1881 census with her 3 siblings. See http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards.page/board/records_office/thread/753696 Though she seems to reappear in 1891 at a home in Strand. Fits with her father being decd by 1900 (and her thinking that was her birthplace I guess). Clearly she lied about her age.
So sorry to have wasted your time on the other Lydia. BUT you have uncovered some new info on David! Thank you for that :-)
I had assumed Lydia was still alive in the 1930s, remarried, and living in Sth Africa (though this is another brick wall), from my grandparents engagement notice: Sunday Times, Sunday 16 December 1934 Freda Kathleen, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. Barnsley, of Albany, to David Henry Hunter, of Kalgoorlie, son of Mrs. L. Marks, of Capetown, South Africa. The wedding will take place almost immediately.
'The West Australian' notice says Mrs. Le Marks.
My mother told me that Lydia died in childbirth and the child died as well. But no evidence of this. Maybe she left and this was a cover-up story to save face?
P.S. the photo to the left is of Freda Kathleen HUNTER (nee BARNSLEY), my grandmother :-)

The 1911 census
David Henry is stated to be a widower!
Cannot find a death registered for a Lydia Hinter apart from one in the Wirral, Cheshire, Dec Q 1906 - age given as 32 which is about right so could be considered a possible.
There is a registered death for David H Hunter in Thanet as you say in 1915.

Not seeing them in 1911 at the moment, but if she said she was born Strand London in the 1901 surely the West Auckland one cannot be her?

Thanks Jax, sorry about all this.
Cross-posting. At the time of her marriage she was living in Love Lane, Margate. They then lived in Dalby Rd, Wandsworth.
Can you see Lydia & David in 1911? David died in 1915 I believe.

AND if the above Wm Chapman was alive in 1901, that theory is also stuffed.
Hmmm...just sent a message to someone with Wm & Lydia (Auckland) in his tree. Will see what he reckons.

AAH! Just realised why I had thought it must be the London-born Lydia!!!! :-S
In the 1901 census (as Lydia HUNTER, with husband David) she is in Wandsworth (where my grandfather was born), showing as age 23, born Strand, London.
This is doing my head in!!!

I think I have been tracing the wrong Lydia CHAPMAN all these years! I had been looking at the Lydia born St Giles 1875, whose father was Wm CHAPMAN shoemaker (this was the info on her 1900 marriage cert to my grt grandfather). Now it just occurs to me she was 23 when she married, so born c1877! More likely this one:
Births Dec 1877 (>99%) CHAPMAN Lydia Auckland 10a 247
And in 1881: William CHAPMAN Head M Male 41 West Auckland, Durham, England Shoe Maker Mary Ann CHAPMAN Wife M Female 33 West Auckland, Durham, England Lydia CHAPMAN Daur Female 3 West Auckland, Durham, England
Source Information: Census Place West Auckland, Durham, England
Who knew there could be 2 Wm Chapman shoemakers! (Dammit I even have her St Giles birth cert!) Unbelievable, shows how sometimes we overlook little things that don't fit as we'd like!
Anyway I know her father was deceased at the time of her marriage in 1900. Can anyone please help with the 1891 census and also Wm's death please?
Thank you! :-)
UPDATE: NOT the correct Lydia after all - see below.
